Beer Bus Bust

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

why not eliminate the bus an just do walking Pub Crawls?
most of the bars ( hostess) are in a few block range
as i recall, per coivd, didn't someone do this?

Think of the $$$ that could be made ( "we will bring you 15 customers for a drink, how much commission will you pay?" )
advertise on FB an other social medias<
instant success
It has been done in most cities but eventually a bar owner, who is not on the crawl, will get pissed off and complain. Many people have tried and they all get shut down, just look at SR when the dirty dancers were all arrested. That was for the same reason; someone (a local) got pissed off that they were not coming to their bar.

See those almost every day. Mostly backpackers so I do not think the itinerary includes girlie bars. Mad Monkey offers it for $10. There was another company doing it, but they seem to have disappeared.

when weed became legal, an old friend of mine suggested we do weed crawls, (Patong has over 20++ of them)
i countered with after visiting the first one, it would be hard to get people to get up and move on to the next one :beer3:

You seriously think this is a crackdown on drunk driving?
There seems to be. The current government has made it a priority to tackle drunk driving since Cambodia has a relatively high fatality rate for motorists as well as pressure from publications like Phnom Penh Post (which has always taken a hardline against alcohol)
Coppers have been provided with breathalyzers and have found out it's a gold mine. A guy living close to me was fined 1.000.000r (about 250 $) last week for drunk driving, and he was caught after sunrise, so coppers are indeed taking it seriously.

ABC radio has been warning their listeners for weeks for this to happen.

Such initiatives have emerged periodically since 2014 and have always fizzled out after 4-6 months so let's see how this one stands the test of time

As Jerry said: not the first time. As with so many things here, all initiatives seem to eventually die a quiet death.

If anyone is sceptical about the local police force it's me, but the combination of available breathalyzers, serious fines (increased about ten fold) and greed make me consider this time it might be different.
