Car of Beautiful Online Seller Damaged by Small Boy on a Motorcycle
Re: Car of Beautiful Online Seller Damaged by Small Boy on a Motorcycle
I entirely agree.
People who set out to offend for the sake of it are just trolls. People who state what they honestly believe, and those statements cause offence are the price we, or rather "they" pay, for free speech. I listen to a phone-in radio station a lot and my blood boils at some of the things people say. But I never want to see them silenced. On the contrary, I like to know what the idiots are thinking.
I have a simple rule on this site. I won't say anything to anyone that I wouldn't say to their face in a bar (when sober). This is my first and only forum and that rule has served me well. Unless you post when you are drunk, which is a really really bad idea... (from experience)
Have a nice day...

It is hard to watch the underclass, the mother with a messed up arm grovelling and in such an emotional state. The bottom of society, the old, the lame, the mentally ill or destitute live such hard lives it is unimaginable. Idon t think there is a day that goes by that I am not reminded how privileged I am. I will give the RR driver this, I have seen a lot of the rich here with much harder hearts than she has.

If money can do this I am glad not to be rich.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Just watched a couple seconds of that video... Say all you want, Cambodians have no table manners and eat like fucking pigs. How can you bring someone that eats like that to a Thanksgiving dinner?
All the money, RRs, makeup, whitening creams and what have you can't make up for the fact that Cambodians are simply ill-mannered.
Re: Car of Beautiful Online Seller Damaged by Small Boy on a Motorcycle
It comes from the fact that nobody tells them. In Western culture, if somebody does something others dont like, they tell them. So people learn others dont like their behaviour, and normally change. In Cambodian culture, people normally dont tell them. So they dont know, and dont change. As a result, there are a lot of things which are unacceptable to Westerners, but acceptable to Cambodians.Queef wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 3:10 pm Cambodians have no table manners and eat like fucking pigs. If you try to tell them, in many cases, you are the one with the problem, not them. So it is difficult for them to even understand.
I could list many examples:
Think about how they drive.
Think about they way they throw trash everywhere.
A Cambodian came up to a Westerner, and said, you have a lot of hair on your arms. Then he grabbed some of the hair. The Westerner punched the Cambodian. The Cambodian didnt think there was anything wrong with what he was doing. It made the Westerner angry.
I was in a village, and had been sitting chatting with a group of people at a house for a while. All of the children got up and walked away. Someone said to me, do you know why all of the children went away? It was because an old lady was coming to the house. She tries to show her affection for the children by pinching them. The children dont like it, and avoid her. But nobody tells her.
You will sometimes come accross Cambodians who talk very loudly. It can be very annoying if you are traveling in a bus, and have to listen to them for a long time. Nobody tells them, so they just continue.
Taking this to the extreme. There are Cambodian people that other Cambodians say are crazy. Some do genuinely have mental problems. I believe there are some which technically dont have mental problems, but have taken their behaviour to the point where they are not fully accepted in society. Nobody tells them. They just say they are crazy.
A lot of what we learn in Western society comes from listening to others. Cambodians dont normally tell, and dont normally listen. Listening to others means losing face. So they lack a lot of those values which make a society civilised.

"Be that as it may, and given the different views I mentioned, let's respect that and not get into a discussion as to whether a particular member's views are valid or not. Otherwise, I think it's nearly time to lock the topic.."
explorer, I find in many ways Khmer culture is like a forum, harmony and cooperative behaviour is more prized than individual opinions and actions, especially negative ones. At times it is best not to tell someone that their views are simplistic or asinine but better to avoid them. This prevents the party from losing face. Some people respond to other's suggestions while others prefer to continue with their behaviour. Wouldn't you agree that the collective good is higher prized than the individual in Khmer culture?
Re: Car of Beautiful Online Seller Damaged by Small Boy on a Motorcycle
We need to decide how we respond in each situation. In 99% of situations, I dont say anything, because they wouldnt understand, or wouldnt care. When they are being very unreasonable, I do speak up. I believe more people should.Anthony's Weiner wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 6:08 pm explorer, I find in many ways Khmer culture is like a forum, harmony and cooperative behaviour is more prized than individual opinions and actions, especially negative ones. I am Australian.
We obey road rules, and the roads are much safer than in Cambodia. In Cambodia a ridiculous amount of people get killed on the roads.
We dont throw trash everywhere. We keep the place tidy. Many Cambodians just throw trash anywhere. Plastic bags are called fertilizer.
I could list more examples.
We think about other people, and what effect our actions have on others.
In Cambodia it is about self and the family. It is not about the collective good of society.

I am Australian as well. I too am shocked that Khmer rarely use the good silverware or fine China. I have wondered if the fact most struggle to have a roof over there head and come from a nation where the educated were slaughtered lass than 45 years ago has left them without proper manners. But then I remember why I moved to SE ASia, so I could feel superior and smug.
