Bagsnatcher dumped and thumped while trying to rob foreigners, Phnom Penh

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Phnom Penh: On January 30, at 10:45 pm, two thieves on a motorbike attempted a snatch and grab robbery on Monivong Boulevard, Khan Doun Penh, Phnom Penh. The victims were an unidentified tourist couple who were walking along the street in a north to south direction when two men on a motorbike came up behind them and attempted to snatch the bag and make off with it.

Image
The victim pulled the bag back sharply, which unbalanced the bag-snatchers and the motorbike, which promptly fell over, dumping the two thieves on the ground. One of the robbers quickly ran off , but the other one, identified as 38 year old Cambodian Thy Pov, could not escape the crowd who came running when they heard the woman scream.

The crowd seized the thief vigorously and took him down to the police station, accompanied by the tourist couple who laid a complaint with the police for theft.

Too bad he didn't get a real beat down!

Some broken limbs and a few missing teeth would be a good deterrent against these types of crimes or an Irish six-pack...

No offense intended to any of you (drunk) Irish fuckers! :stir:

Or an African necklace. Problem is that nothing will deter these low-down meth-heads.

I wouldn't advise people to wander along the riverside with any bags at 10:45 pm in any country where poverty is a huge issue.

So, glad they got caught, but dangling the possibility of a quick $500 is kind of negligent.

Why have you stopped posting the links to the online Khmer sources? You're taking someone else's written content and photos and translating their words, the least you can do is provide appropriate credit. That way, readers can go to the original source and see if there are other photos or information, see what time it was posted online and in what local news outlet, confirm whether the subjects are Kiwi or Dutch, etc.

This issue has ben raised several times in the past and you guys always piss and moan about providing the links and then reluctantly say "OK, fine we'll provide links to the original content from now on" and then a week later you stop.

Yeah, it always bags. They probably had both passports in it too.
