Authorities Are Trying to Free Sidewalk in DaunPenh District

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

When they clear those pricks parking on 51st sidewalk, between GSM and Walkabout up to 6pm when the vendors come out and block the same said area in about 10 mins, with customers moto's parking 2 or 3 deep. It's hard enough trying to walk in a straight line there without the signs or vendors, just avoiding drunks, slackpackers and yabba'd out taxi girls is challenging enough! :D

Today it's street 118 that gets the cleanup. I saw 3 large advertising signs on the back of the police truck.,,,,

Lookout street 130, could be your turn tomorrow, there are lots of Angkor beer bar signs just waiting.

I'm failing to see the logic of clearing one side of one street. This morning I watched as 8 police attached a new shiney wheel clamp to a car yet left the other 7 cars parked near by and the 12 cars that were parked on the footpath., totally blocking it off. And this was only between riverside and the old market.

The rest of the street was still unwalkable with many businesses blocking the footpath.

Didn't see them get any $ when taking the clamp off.

Really, haven’t you lived there since forever? Were you not there last week when your side was pitch black all day and the other side had power?

You know very well that those two sides belong to two different Sangkats.

CEOCambodiaNews wrote: Thu Sep 03, 2015 12:03 am According to the personal facebook account of the governor of Daun Penh district, currently the local authorities are working hard to free the sidewalk for the pedestrian.

Here is the text he posted a long with a few pictures showing the local authorities taking down the banner that had been placed on the sidewalk.

The usage of sidewalk in Phnom Penh is really complicated, some people use sidewalk as parking lot, some use sidewalk to exhibit their stuff and good, some use sidewalk to put their flowers and plants and some other use it to put the banner. People took the sidewalk as their private space which really affect to our city. The city hall announced to people many times to rearrange their staff and keep the sidewalk free for the sake of pedestrian and the beauty of our city.
