Australian Woman in Battambang /Phnom Penh Bus Crash

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Just over a year ago the Crapitol bus crashed on same route with crazy N on board, he got a couple of broken ribs.

Why anybody takes these lurching piles of shit when it's only a tenner for the minibus is beyond me.
Well, using your example and this new crash, seems the Capitol Bus is the safer of the 2 with also a larger number of people on board.

? Wut?
Maybe English/maths aren't your strong point today

2 crashes on Crapitol (+other companies too) in 18 months on same route - $5 and around 7 hours +

0 crashes (of which I'm aware) on various minibus services - $10 and 4 hours.

These coach turdpiles regularly breakdown without crashing and put an extra couple of hours onto an awful trip. I was very happy when the VIP bus route started. Real happy.

Right you are! I thought I read that your friend crashed on a minibus.

Thx.

Gulp, I did that journey last trip with Capitol when I was travelling around, glad nobody was killed. Took the Giant Ibis smallish bus from PP to SHV and the big Giant Ibis from Siem Reap to PP, on the basis that their coaches look relatively new and reports suggested their drivers weren't out and out speed merchants.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

LoL, he was trying to call me out for only reporting on foreigners and not mentioning locals, when in fact I was only told about the Australian woman because her mother contacted me directly.

That was my initial reaction.

Public transportation are fiercely competing against one another. The vans are just waiting for many accident to happen. They pride themselves to clock the PP-SR route in less than 5 hours. The way the management here works like, the faster you arrive at the destination the faster you get off work, thats the main incentive.

I wasn't trying to call you out, so much as I wanted an answer to the question. I do think some expats care more about expat lives than khmers or at least empathise more with westerners, but this is not just Cambodia. In US papers, American deaths are always reported in the first paragraph and then you might read about out the rest towards the end of the article. I do think that you running the story without seeking that additional information is suggestive of a wider cultural problem, but again, I really just asked to get an answer. I don't want to engage in another argument about this, so we can just agree to disagree.

Ok, if you are saying it's a "wider cultural problem" then I can see where you're coming from, in a small way.

It must also find it strange we don't try to report every death in New Zealand either because, as you seem to suggest, someone must not think as highly as others if they done report on them.

This site is operated and visited mainly by foreigners, therefore stories naturally involve them more often. Does that suggest we think any more of expats than locals? Not at all, but the theme is this site is about foreigners (hence our url, wink wink).

I love Burmuda, but I've yet to post a story about the place. Somehow it doesn't seem quite as relative to a site called Cambodia Expats Online, does it?
And besides, as already stated, I was directly told about the story from the mother of a young Australian woman on board. That's all the info that was handed to me.

And I happen to love Cambodia and its people. So rest assured you won't see anything like what you're insinuating here coming from me.

Next you'll be accusing us of running this week's story of the Oknha who was assassinated in Phnom Penh because we assumed he was a foreigner, LoL.

All that said, I see your point I just think you directed it to the wrong people.
