Australian Tourist Mark Allen Dies From Apparent Drug Overdose at The Pickled Parrot, Street 104 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

You mean that Ozzie journalists (BOO! HISS!) will lift a story completely - without even bothering to rewrite it much,
let alone give due attribution OR ANY PAYMENT?

The utter rotters!

The photo of the deceased in his passport looks like a grainy image of a man rescued after being lost in the outback
for a few weeks.

And isn't he old enough not to be messing about with drugs?

202? I've stayed in that room many times. Now I stay at the Luxx on St.136 and have been recommended the Silver River on St. 174. They must have had fun (not) getting the stiff body down that stairway at the Tonle Sap.

hometown suites, next door, is better than silver river, ( get new room 505) huge room and windows over the back parking lot and half the price

Back in 2008 i spent 1 month (top floor) in the Tonle sap GH. those stairs are a bitch

Have they updated the door locks? When I went to view after remodel they still had key in door knob lock. Can open with a CC, piece of plastic bottle or just about anything flexible.

IIRC Hometown was asking $20 & I ws at S. River for $23.

Presumably the Australian Embassy would deal with that sort of thing.

Did you know Mark personally?

Hi rgood,
I would say that his family has been notified since it 's reported in the mainstream Australia news now.
Sorry about your friend, but it would be really good if you could get the word out that a lot of foreigners have been dying from drugs in Cambodia recently. Maybe that will prevent more deaths.
Just do a search on Cambodia drug deaths. Sometimes they are listed as heart attacks, but we (expats watching the news) know that there has been an increase in drug-related deaths.
Sorry about your friend. Get the word out if you want to do something for him.People are dying. Not sure why but loads of foreigners are ODing/dying, presumably from smack, in Phnom Penh Cambodia.
