Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

Not exactly the right neighbourhood for that. I used to drive by there everyday, the wife(I assume) would be working in the afternoon and he would be chilling there in evening, sometimes there was a couple of other Aussies sitting around as well. Was about 1/2 block off of one of the main detour streets from Olympic market.

I can't believe some of the comments on here. Some knucklehead gets bust for selling shit on the street. And some of the pussies are already considering if it's worth staying. LOL, just go.Seriously? You don't realise the implications? The sellers already have so little, and some white dude feels it's OK to compete with them? In p[lain sight? You don't realise what the locals see this as?

You whine about the Chinese in Sinville, fair enough. But a honkie does the same and you start packing? Can I give you directions to teh bus stop?

Jesus, if this was the US or UK or AUS you'd all be cheering some poor Mexican dude or Ugandan or Viet getting nailed.

What a fucking idiot.

Brings Hans Christian Anderson's Little Match Girl slightly to mind. Not a big deal really.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

I don't know what your point is, perhaps you feel that whites have a right to be racist if they are in a minority, but it still doesn't justify the hypocrisy.

These kind of idiots start the shit which ends in restaurateurs not being allowed to work or serve behind the bar in establishments they own.

Let me clarify it for you: as long as we have higher skills than the people we work with, and are not a threat to their income, we are tolerated, sometimes even welcomed.

This clown didn't understand that, but I can guarantee you that hundreds of Khmers working at this level will be pissed off by this.

Sellers; no qualifications required, nada. Just hard work. And this guy decides it would be a great idea to compete with locals. Sigh. Just dumb, sorry, but it's true.

well, the big market in SV is wholly owned by a Chinese company now, and many of the actual market stalls have been purchased by Chinese individuals who appear to be owner operators. their products ( food ) are imported.
where to draw the line?
Thailand has more than 100 "reserved occupations" where foreigners are not allowed. everything from farming to dealing in gems.

competition and outside cross fertilization are thought to be good things if they do not become monopolies.

the pogroms against overseas chinese by the malays from timor to southern thailand shows that resentment in the native population can be a dangerous thing. ( to chinese people- they killed over a million in java in the 1960's )

those IQ maps are pretty revealing.

Who the **** reported him though ?

Did they go like : "Oh Oh Oh, there's an orange juice seller but he's barang, let's investigate !" ?
Why would you think anyone had reported him? He was holding the wrong visa for what he was doing. He was in luck with immigration, only got off with a caution. It could have been very worse. The law states, fine or and imprisonment, worst is deportation.
I feel sorry for him, and many comments on the post. He was only helping out is lady.
But it does make you think what you can and can’t do.
