Australian Female Kristy Anne Blackney Found Dead in Kampot River By Owner of Arcadia Backpackers

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Maybe she jumped off Arcadia's sex platform or whatever it is and broke her neck.

@GM... regarding the visa, it is just a T-type (Tourist) visa, as it was issued from a Cambodian Embassy abroad, the dates indicate the period of validity for entry, not length of stay. It is still only valid for a 1 month stay.

I would hate to add more confusion to this whole story, but in an attempt to get clarification, I ended up chatting with a Kampot immigration officer, and he makes it sound like she was recently staying with a MALE friend for a few days (presumably at Arcadia), and that he hadn't seen her for 2 days when her body was found.

Not sure if he's saying nobody had seen her for 2 days, or if he's just saying her male friend hadn't seen her for 2 days.

I asked when she went missing and how close to Arcadia she was found and this was the officer's response:

"I was informed from the Acardia guesthouse, we got to check with criminal and communal police, even doctor we have found that the corpse was floating in the river closed to Acardia guesthouse, and we asked the manager of Acardia and [Kristy]'s friend who stayed for a few night with her he told us that she said goodbye to him 2 days before her corpse was found , and he just know when the police were there"

So where is the markings that indicate she only had 30 days in the kingdom?

I thought that the dates on the actual visa in the passport are the actual dates to go by, no?

1. That sure looks like a 3 month tourist visa to me. Why would anyone go to a consulate to get a one month tourist visa when they can get that at the border?

2. Also, who cares how long her visa was for?

It's annotated on the entry stamp, I am speaking from personal experience and that of family who obtained their T-type visa from a Cambodian Embassy abroad . I will try and post a picture when I am on my computer , can't seem to do it from my phone.

@Cam Nivag, there is no 3 mth tourist visa.

OK. Why would someone go to a consulate in Thailand to get a one month tourist visa if they could just get it at the border? To save money by avoiding border officials demanding 1500 baht?

To add a few more details, it looks like she was found floating in the river at Arcadia in the area they call THE ROPE SWING.

She was found floating under the bushy palm trees on the bank, and it matches with the images from one of Arcadia Backpackers' YouTube videos. You can see the palm trees, the blue and white dingy in the image of her body on the ground, and even the indented mud bank which drops about a foot before reaching the river.

Would be hard enough to see her there during the day, and impossible at night.

I assume all the partygoers cease all the dangerous water activities at sunset and resume bright and early at noon the next day.

If she "drowned" wouldn't one expect her to have drowned in deep-ish water and then been carried downstream? Maybe she fell off the rope swing or hurt herself on one of their various playthings right by the shore.
