I’m quite surprised at the amount of outrage from expats / jurnos on twitter.
Is it just this a sensationalist story the can get behind to show how big and bad Cambodia is or do they not know the background of what James has been doing here.
While I full heartedly agree these are trumped up charges and he is in no way a “spy” but the end of the day he has pissed on so many here and made no friends in the government with his online rants. It was only a matter of time before he got hit with something.

What's with the battle helmets?
Are they preparing to advance on a beachhead or just escorting a sexagenarian from the courthouse steps to a rusted Econoline?

Their rules are whatever they say it is and for every rule "law" there is no defence against it.
Not to mention they can toss in things like "treason" even though you are not a citz.
Bottom line is they will always be right .

so you agree with government locking him up for pissing on their head and being stupid enough to fly a drone over a rally?kiwiincambodia wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:13 pm I’m quite surprised at the amount of outrage from expats / jurnos on twitter.

No, I don’t agree with it, as I said these are definitely trumped up charges but he had to expect something to happen. This is Cambodia after all. You can’t go around pissing on officials and expect nothing coming back to bite you in the ass. He’s been here long enough to know better.Kammekor wrote:so you agree with government locking him up for pissing on their head and being stupid enough to fly a drone over a rally?kiwiincambodia wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:13 pm I’m quite surprised at the amount of outrage from expats / jurnos on twitter.

My post was more about the outpouring of sympathy like he is some angel who has never done anything when anyone who has followed his exploits know this to not be the case. Does he deserve to be locked up, of course not. Should he have expected it or some form of retaliation, yes. Most who live here long term know not to get involved in such matters for the exact reasons being played out now.
Anything can happen to you here and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it. As they say if you play with fire expect to get burned.

Just in case anyone doesn't know his background: https://www.cambodianchildrensfund.org/fact-sheet-3/
Silence, exile, and cunning.

This was his third conviction in Cambodia, plus legal action against him in Oz. Arrogant prick thought he was was above the law.Kammekor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 4:14 pmso you agree with government locking him up for pissing on their head and being stupid enough to fly a drone over a rally?kiwiincambodia wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:13 pm I’m quite surprised at the amount of outrage from expats / jurnos on twitter.

Come now, this is about as far from a fact sheet as possible.John Bingham wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 4:53 pm Just in case anyone doesn't know his background:ccf wrote:Fact sheet:
I have no opinion either way if the guy is an annoying prick, but he should be being charged with defamation if that's what he's doing, not this bullshit spying charge.
Anyone saying "he's getting what he deserves" is missing the point of codified justice. Why not just see if he floats?
