Shipped back to Oz on the next plane out, one way blacklisted from ever returning. I hope so. See how he finishes his documentary then, jackass.
Thanks for the negative vote Duncan, not sure what you're upset about, that I think he will get banned? that he wont finish his bullshit documentary? or are you the apologist of a pedo apologist?

there are only two possible scenarios - he gets charged and 10 years in the slammer or HE lets him go back to Oz if that happens he will never be allowed back for sure.

Uprooting life to support a father in jail

Phnom Penh: A year ago, Jesse Ricketson could not have imagined he’d be living in Cambodia, far from his Sydney home, fighting for his father’s freedom.

The 36-year-old uprooted his life and moved to Phnom Penh with his partner in a bid to clear his father, Australian filmmaker James Ricketson, of espionage, a charge he emphatically denies.

Ricketson was arrested in June last year after he was seen flying a drone above an opposition party rally, a turn of events that has left Jesse and his family grappling to come to terms with Cambodia’s justice system.

With the first stage of Ricketson’s trial set to begin Friday, the Ricketson family’s tumultuous year may be drawing to a resolution.

“It’s been a pretty major upheaval – uprooting our lives and shirting over here to Cambodia is a major change,” Jesse said on a blustery Thursday afternoon in Phnom Penh.

Both Jesse and his partner Alex led normal lives, working in Sydney, with Jesse playing drums in a number of bands. They were on a road trip across America when they first heard word of Ricketson’s arrest.

“We had to leave that all behind to come here to help dad as best we can, however we can,” Jesse said. “It’s definitely a full-time job, almost all of the time. It’s an endurance race.”

At the start of last month, Ricketson was moved from an overcrowded cell with more than 120 prisoners in Cambodia’s notorious Prey Sar prison into the jail’s hospital.

He’s been afflicted with a number of skin complaints and unresolved chest pain.

“It’s scary seeing him like that,” Jesse said, adding his father was feeling nervous ahead of Friday’s trial.

Ricketson’s filmmaking often took second place to his humanitarian work, providing housing and financial assistance to a number of Cambodian families who made their living sifting through trash at one of the capital’s rubbish dumps. Jesse said many of those families have been left without support since his father’s incarceration.

In the past 18 months, Cambodia has been in the midst of a political and media crackdown. For Ricketson’s adopted daughter, Roxanne Holmes, her father was simply “caught in the crossfire”.

“Everybody in the family is very distraught,” Holmes said.

“He saved my life and I want to save his. I want to bring him home.”

Holmes has been galvanising support on the home front, namely with a petition that has gained more than 76,000 signatures.

People like Peter Greste and Tony Abbott have put their weight behind the campaign, as did Sam Neill, Rachel Ward and other Australian film figures last week.

While Ricketson’s work in Cambodia has rankled some NGOs and even prompted lawsuits, his family and media experts have dismissed the “spying” allegations from the very beginning.

“My dad is not a spy,” Jesse said. “This is a chance for the Cambodian legal system to show us that justice can be done.”

“We’re hoping for a positive result here, which is the charges being dropped, James’ name being cleared and him being released.

After the elections and He wins in a landslide, he will have the king grant a pardon to James and deport him..

Everyone knows he is not a spy, just a fool

On Friday, 15 June 2018, Ricketson asked the Phnom Penh court for more time to prepare his defence, and his request has been granted by the judge.
The trial of Australian film-maker and accused spy James Ricketson has been postponed in a Cambodian court after a bench of three judges granted him more time to prepare his defence.

Ricketson has told the Phnom Penh court he was told he would be charged with espionage only last week and he has not been served with a formal indictment.

The court was expected to begin formal hearings on espionage charges on Friday.

Judge Seng Leang agreed with Ricketson’s submission, saying a fresh date would be set and the defence would be informed.

Detained Australian says sorry to PM
July 11, 2018
Detained Australian journalist and filmmaker James Ricketson has written a letter of apology to Prime Minister HE and pleaded to be released.

Mr Ricketson, 69, has been in Prey Sar prison since June last year awaiting trial after being accused of involvement in terrorism or a colour revolution after being arrested while flying a drone over a CNRP rally.

“May I please, respectfully, send my sincerest apologies to yourself and the Cambodian Government,” Mr Ricketson wrote. “I now realise that statements I have made in the press are disruptive and ill-informed. These statements were made from a place of foreign naivety and ignorance about the complexities and difficulties of governing Cambodia.”

“I sincerely regret having made any disrespectful comments and I unreservedly apologise in this regard to yourself and your Cambodian government,” he added. “I can see much more clearly now how much good your government brings to the country and the stability it affords to Cambodians.”

“I apologise unreservedly and without condition for any distress I may have caused as a result of my ignorance of Cambodian issues. If there is anything I can do to remedy my mistake, please let me know as I only want the best for you and Cambodia.”

“I thank you in advance for your indulgence and understanding of an uninformed foreigner,” he said.
