Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On November 04, 2018, at 2:40 pm, Tonle Bassac police detained a 46-year-old Australian woman, CAROL ANN EVENS, after she didn't pay for her $25 meal at Sofitel Hotel, Phnom Penh. After questioning, the police found that the suspect was living in Cambodia on an expired visa.

Before the incident, the Australian woman to the restaurant at Sofitel Phokeethra. After eating, she stayed at the restaurant for a while without asking for payment, so the staff went to ask her to pay for her food. When presented with the bill, the woman said she didn't have money to pay, so the staff called the police.
The police went to the restaurant, where they detained the suspect and took her to Tonle Bassac police post for questioning. They discovered that she didn't have any money, and had overstayed her visa by two months.

The suspect was sent to the immigration department to follow the legal procedure.

Not a bad plan if you know you're at the end of an overstay & about to be picked up by the fuzz. Final Cambodian meal; Sofitel buffet is a good shout to get you through the police/immigration paperwork until they put you back on a plane. 0/10 for financial planning, 10/10 for exit strategy planning, even James Bond would be proud. #ShakenNotStirred

Further details from Cambodian police : The Australian woman, Carol Evans, was not residing in Cambodia, but was here as a tourist on holiday. She entered the country on 4 September 2018 on a one month tourist visa, which expired on 4 October, and had not been renewed.

No one is ever about to be picked up by the fuzz for overstay. You could overstay for a decade as long as you don't get picked up for sleeping rough or stealing.

She only overstayed for a month, that's one the shortest on record for someone who got arrested.
