Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On September 7, 2022, at 1:00 pm, at CIMB Bank on St. 516, Sangkat Boeung Kok 1, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh, a security guard was shot for denying entry to an anonymous man who was wearing a motorbike helmet.
According to the source, the gunman is suspected to be a private bodyguard who attempted to enter the bank with his helmet on, who became angry when he was denied entry by bank security. The suspect then forced his way in, pulled out the handgun, and shot the security guard several times at close range, causing severe injuries.
The gunman fled the scene on his motorbike after the shooting and the guard was taken to the nearby hospital. The bank called the police, who have opened an investigation into the incident.

It's perfectly natural to want to shoot some of these security jobsworth types, especially the ones who work at banks or the ones who stop three lanes of traffic so they can direct parked cars to reverse into the road and claim a tip. However, actually acting on that desire is probably taking things just a bit too too far.

The security guys have always been courteous and friendly when I’ve used banks and other businesses here, and is helping customers in their vehicles back safely onto the road such a bad thing?

UPDATE: Both men are reported to be security guards from Safeguard Cambodia, working at CIMB bank.

Security guard shoots colleague in quarrel at workplace

A bank security guard was shot in his right leg by his colleague during a quarrel at their work premises yesterday afternoon.

The gunman fled after the shooting at the CIMB bank in Tuol Kork district’s Boeng Kak I commune at about 1.30pm.

Boeng Kak I police deputy chief Major Vong Savoeun said Lun Chivoan, 25, a suspended soldier and 47-year-old Khun Vorn, are employees of Safeguard Cambodia and on duty at the CIMB Bank.

Maj Savoeun said Chivoan and Vorn had an argument and were about to punch it out when they were stopped by other colleagues.

“Vorn continued to curse and insult Chivoan and Chivoan pulled out a pistol and shot Vorn in the right leg. Chivoan then fled on his motorcycle,” Maj Savoeun said.

Maj Savoeun said police are now searching for Chivoan and that Chivoan is likely to be charged with “attempted murder and unauthorised holding weapon” which provides for a jail term of 10 years or more.
