Re: Angkor Wat: significant price increases from today.

Tourism as usual at Angkor Wat despite steeper fees
Mon, 3 April 2017
The steep increase in Angkor Wat ticket prices on February 1 did not discourage tourists from visiting the country’s chief tourist draw, as some feared, but it also did not reap any significant material gains for the government coffers, new data shows.
Figures released on Saturday by the Angkor Enterprise, the state-run ticketing agency for Angkor Wat Archaeological Park, showed ticket sales to the World Heritage site near Siem Reap inched up to 701,358 during the first quarter of the year. Meanwhile, revenue rose to $20.3 million, a mere 1.7 percent year-on-year increase despite price hikes that effectively doubled the cost of single-day admission.
Some tourism experts had expressed concern over the government’s decision to sharply increase the entrance price to Angkor Wat, arguing that it could prompt price-conscious foreign travellers to skip visiting the ancient temple complex and the country itself...
The Angkor Wat Archaeological Park generated nearly $63.6 million in revenue last year with 2.2 million tickets sold, an increase of 4.2 percent compared to 2015.

Re: Angkor Wat: significant price increases from today.
Angkor’s price is spot on
July 5, 2017
SIEM REAP, 5 July 2017: Ticket sale revenue earned from foreigners visiting Angkor Wat’s archaeological park reached USD52.1 during January to June, this year, up 66.8% when compared with the same period last year.
Xinhua News quoted figures released by Angkor Enterprise, the state-owned institution in charge of Angkor income management.
The report also claimed foreign visits to the World Heritage site rose 12.9% to 1.23 million visits during the first six months of this year, compared to the same period last year.
Most tourists to the park were Chinese, South Koreans and Americans.
The remarkable increase in revenue was attributed to a hike in ticket prices since February. Critics at the time thought the entrance fee increase would deter visitors. They argued that carry capacity at the park had been exceeded and a decline in visits would be welcomed. It now appears that it would take a much bigger fee increase to slow down visits. As Angkor Wat is the country’s top attraction it is considered a must-see destination for first-time visitors. China is supplying thousands of first-time travellers to Southeast Asia, with no sign that their enthusiasm for exploring the region is abating.
The entrance fees to the site are now USD37 for a one-day visit, USD62 for a three-day pass and USD72 for a seven-day pass.

If they increased the price and even more people came, logic would dictate they should reduce prices to deter them.

Cambodia’s Angkor earns over USD95 mln from ticket
Revenue from ticket sales to foreigners visiting Cambodia’s famed Angkor archaeological park reached USD95.6 million in the first 11 months of 2017, up 72 percent compared to the same period last year, said a statement on Friday.
The remarkable surge in revenue was due to the increase in ticket prices earlier this year.
The ancient site attracted 2.18 million foreign visitors during the January-November period this year, up 12 percent over the same period last year, said the statement from the state-run Angkor Enterprise, which is in charge of ticket sales at the park.
China is the largest source of tourists to the historic site, followed by South Korea and the United States.
