3. Write a letter explaining your need for a second passport
You need to write a one-paragraph letter explaining why you need two passports. It helps if you can include an upcoming itinerary to sensitive countries, or at least a record of frequent international travel in the past.
4. Submit the application and the fees
The cost is US $135 plus whatever fee is charged by the service provider if you use one. Also, note that the second passport is only valid for two years. Unfortunately, you can’t get a second 10-year passport.
Having the second passport has already helped me several times, by being able to send off the new one to random embassies (Russia, Eritrea, etc.) with no real worries since I have another one safely in my office.
I guess, if for some reason, you don't want immigration folks knowing where you've travelled too-or the send off to get a visa thing.
a bit curious to be sure.

And I believe you are right. I didn't know that. So it sounds like he would have needed a very good reason to get one. Wonder what it was. I should probably get one so that I can visit counties that aren't so friendly with Saudi Arabia.KickingWithRedLabel wrote:I believe a 2nd passport is valid for only 2 yearsGeneral Mackevili wrote:timmydownawell wrote: I'm still intrigued by his American passport, which is only valid for 2 years.
The issuance of a second valid passport should be considered an exception to the regulations, and is to be approved on an individual basis only where justified. The second valid passport may not be limited geographically, i.e. for travel in only a few countries. It will, however, be limited in time, valid for a period of two years. Thereafter, a new second valid passport must be applied for; second valid passports are no longer extendable.

The finger print scanners at the airport, and your name and birth date will automatically link the two passports on the immigration computer. It happened to me once when using my OZ passport for the first time, even though it was over a year old , they had all the info from my NZ passport, which was of the old type, no chip in it .
No advantage in having two passports these days.

He says in his FB posts that he has been traveling the world and living abroad since age 13, also reference to Petrobras, and Saudi Arabia. If he traveled frequently for work, that would be a reason to get a second passport.General Mackevili wrote: And I believe you are right. I didn't know that. It's not hard to get a second passport, I have one, you just have to write a letter to the State Department with your application and say "I travel a lot." Or specifically, "I'm planning shithole African countries in November and December, and I will need to submit my passport to their embassies in Washington DC for visas, but I also have other international travel planned before then, so I need a second passport so that I can travel internationally while my primary passport is at the Angolan embassy."

Re: Transferring a motorcycle title
I assume telling then I want to visit Israel might be a good enough reason.

Re: Transferring a motorcycle title
Visiting Israel isn't a problem, they understand that you can be blacklisted from many countries for visiting there so they will on request put a special slip in your passport that can be removed. Or at least that used to be the case.General Mackevili wrote:I assume telling then I want to visit Israel might be a good enough reason.

Re: American Expat Robert Owen Durkin From Pennsylvania Kills Himself in Phnom Penh by Slitting His Wrists
Bob suffered from mental illness. He was an engineer however he had not worked for over a year.He invested and had an income that covered his living expenses. He had a two year passport because he has had 8 passports in a 5 year period he often got off his meds he would lose his passport and wallet and I.D. the last passport that he was issued was only a two year passport and he had to get help from his state senator to get that.Bob has traveled extensively and unfortunately has had many misadventures in many countries over the years, due to his problems with mental illness.I have known him since 1986.He was able to lead a normal productive life when he stayed on his meds.Travel can really create problems for someone with bipolar disorder as the dosages of medication are often very precise.Bob often said that he thought that the meds that he bought in different countries were incorrect dosage.I think that he simply liked the euphoric feeling that he would experience briefly when he got off his meds. His illness was relentless and seemed to reoccur with more frequency as he got older.Bob was a kind and generous person when he was on his medication and a complete pain in the neck when he got off his meds. Some of his escapades when he was off his meds were really weird..The fact that he lived through them made me wonder if he had an angel watching over him,He once took a trip to Tijuana Mexico and hired a taxi to take him further into Mexico. The driver stopped for gas and Bob drove away with his taxi while he was in the restroom and got into a wreck within a half of a mile..I remember one occasion when he was being detained by the Banrak police in Bangkok they allowed him to roam freely throughout the police station while they were waiting for an attendant to take him to St.Louis hospital for evaluation. He slipped into the parking lot and let the air out of all of their personal autos.Another time he undressed while riding a bus in Bangkok and the driver as well as the passengers fled at the next bus stop.Bob used to call me every time that he would get admitted into St.Louis hospital.I would get calls from the American Embassy and from various police stations and hospitals and do what I could to explain and help resolve the situation when ever he got into a mess..I guess Bob considered me his reliable friend for quite a few years.Maybe it was because I could never get angry with him, I knew that he was battling something that would probably someday win and end his life. Please don't judge him.He had more problems to deal with then anyone should have to bear.I always worried that Bob would someday take his own life. His father also committed suicide. It happens all too often to people who suffer from bipolar disorder. There's nothing mysterious about his passing. It's just sad.
