American Expat Robert Owen Durkin From Pennsylvania Kills Himself in Phnom Penh by Slitting His Wrists

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Gotcha now. :thumb:

I just opened the front of my passport and it also says SEE PAGE 51. Turned to page 51 only to find a blank page.

I guess I should be thankful it was blank on page 51, because if it had said TURN TO THE FRONT PAGE, I could have been here all freaking day.

Guess they all say that.

So what caused the six fractured ribs and perforated lung?

Did someone kick the shit out of him about something?

I'm still intrigued by his American passport, which is only valid for 2 years.

Sounds like he has been on all sorts of drugs at the same time.

He even says he self-medicated with Prozac, which is the anti-depression medication which has been well known to cause impulse suicide.

He also tells people he "caused" it himself by running around, but I assume he's talking about an allergic reaction to all the drugs, which caused him to blow up like the Nutty Professor:

this smells a wee bit like a wind up. Will we be seeing a 'go fund me' deal next?

I keep the USA embassy number for what ever country I'm in on my phone as I travel.
It would help in cases like this. although, so would easing back on the self medicating

just sayin'

For the ill informed, especially the General, who should know better, who have commented on this the facts are: Bob Durkin was a kind and generous soul, who unfortunately suffered from schizophrenia, which he battled for years. He needed to stick to a strict medication regime, but as with most who suffer from this curse he had a tendency to convince himself it was safe to stop, it never was and once of his meds he would spiral into depression and delusion. During past incidents there were always friends on hand to pull him back from the edge. Unfortunately it would seem there was no such backup available this time.
RIP Bob, those of us that knew you will always remember you with affection and have a quite chuckle over some of the more bizarre situations you managed to get yourself into.

I don't know anything about these kinds of drugs, but without your explanation, it looked to us cynics like another typical Sville overdose death. Thank you for putting this death into context. RIP Bob Durkin.
