Check out this video of 940 new solar panels on the roof of the U.S. Embassy that were unveiled to mark Earth Day 2018. The panels, which produce enough electricity to power 240 Cambodian houses, will reduce our electricity cost by $65,000 a year and shrink our carbon footprint!

Drone footage provided by Ouch Makara of the Documentation Center of #Cambodia. #EarthDay2018”

Some people are questioning the expenditure.

“Wait, so this solar system will supply 16% of your electricity which is the equivalent of a saving of $65,000 per year.

That means the total electric cost for 1 year before was:
$65,000 x (100/16) = $406,250 !!!
Which is nearly $34,000 per month. Now that is a BIG carbon footprint right there.”

“U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, Cambodia Out of interest what is the US's investment in clearing Cambodia of unexploded ordnance per annum?”

Oh dear.
Imported from somewhere no doubt.

So I had to look up the source for this $1 million dollar price tag. It is from their facebook page and the embassy posted the price tag in the comments.

I would love to see the invoice for this project. You should be in the black on most solar systems within about 5 years, it's going to be a 20 year payback for this project, wtf. I doubt the panels will even be functional in 20 years.
