American Cheerleader Jacob Lowes Dies While on Holiday in Cambodia

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: An American cheerleader, Jacob Matthew Lowes, died on April 10 while on holiday in Cambodia.

He was from Covington, Georgia and was living in New York, New Year while working for Delta Airlines. His family flew to Cambodia to do all the paperwork in order to bring his corpse back.

The cause of his death has not been publicly released.

After his funeral on April 22, his friends and family threw Jacob a "Cheerleading Extravaganza." CEO News is not even exactly sure what a Cheerleading Extravaganza is, but we'll assume that everyone who attended had a lot of fun.

Jacob Lowes' close friend wrote some kind words about him after his death:

"My sweet, sweet, sweet Jarkeeerbbbb. I have never pictured my life with out your shining face right by my side. I feel so lost, confused, angry, and empty. You have been the greatest blessing to my life and I cannot wrap my mind around this. It all started in 7th grade, cheering for United. We were the unstoppable stunt group that had to be split up because we were too good together. We instantly became inseparable and little did we know this was only the beginning. In high school we went on to cheer for Pro Cheer, started college at Columbus State, and then I let you convince me to move all the way to Memphis, TN to cheer for a D1 school- a dream come true for both of us. You were my biggest fan and supporter through cheerleading, life, everything, and I was yours too. I was fortunate to win college cheerleading nationals at CSU and you weren't going to settle for graduating college without a national championship of your own, and sure enough you didn't. Life threw us so many curve balls, and you were always so positive and never let me get down about anything. You always said, I've been praying about it and that's all we can do. We went on to graduate college together Spring 2015, and then we both started on with the next chapters of our lives in our careers. I stayed in Memphis and you went back home and became a flight attendant for Delta. You met the love of your life and I had never seen your face light up so much. I watched you spend the last year traveling the world with your soul mate, better half, and best friend, and yall always took every opportunity to see me no matter what. You were gonna spend forever with him. We talked about your wedding, and joked about mine, but there was never a doubt we would be standing next to each other on that special day. We got through anything and everything together and the rest of our lives wasn't going to be any different. You took care of me always and became another member of The Bellew Family. I just talked to you 2 days ago, you were so happy to be traveling with Jake in Cambodia, then yall were gonna go to Hong Kong, and then you promised me you would do anything and everything possible to make sure you made it to Memphis this weekend for my 25th birthday. I told you it would make my bday if you came and you said "I know! Trust me, I wanna see you so bad! It's a big birthday for you and you're my best friend!".I knew you would make it happen too. You have made this world a better place Jacob Matthew Lowes and it is such an honor to have spent the last 12 years of my life with you as my best and dearest friend. God had a bigger plan for you and I pray that He will lead me to understand it, because it doesn't seem fair. You have impacted the lives of thousands of cheerleaders you taught at UCA camps, teammates that shared the mat with you, the strangers that you always talked to, and any single person that has ever crossed your path in life. Reading all of the positive words, sharing of old pics, and telling of old stories from every one is keeping my heart happy, because I know that we are all better humans because of you. I would do anything to have you snoring in my passenger seat on one of our 1000 roadtrips (even if I had the flu and you make me drive bc you can't stay awake), or sharing our daily pizza and ice cream, or staying up all hours of the night hearing you sing the "Mitsy Bitsy Spider". I have the best Angel in the World watching over me- we ALL do. Jacob, help me and everyone get through this sweet boy. Thank you SO much to everyone that has taken the time to call, text, and send prayers- keep them coming- your support is what is getting me through this."

They also managed to raise $26,000 of their $35,000 goal on GoFundMe to help get his corpse back to the US.

"The sudden passing of Jacob Lowes has left many people in shock. As many of you know he passed away in a different country, it is going to cost the family $10,000 just to get him back home. Plus an additional cost for a nice funeral that he deserves. No family is ever prepared to have to bury a child, so any donations will help offset the cost. Please keep his family, Jake, and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this hard time.

Thank you everyone who has donated, shared, and prayed for the family, Jake, and friends! GOOD NEWS Delta has graciously offered to help cover the cost of getting Jacob home! Money is still needed to help cover the cost of preserving the body and all that plus Christy and Jake being in Cambodia longer than expected. They are planning to leave on Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest to come home. Nothing is set in stone yet, but if all goes as planned, the funeral will be next weekend sometime (4/22-4/23) at Caldwell and Cowan funeral home in Covington, Ga. The family is going to rent out a park and host a "Cheerleading Extravaganza" after the funeral. Jacob deserves the best celebration of life and with everyones help, he will get the best!! Please continue to pray for them on their journey back home. I will post more updates as I receive them.

Help spread the word!

Why does the obituary say he "passed away in a different country" instead of "in Cambodia"? Would people in Georgia not know that Cambodia is a country? Do they only know Florida, New York, and the "rest of the world?"

Or did they write it this way to avoid mentioning Cambodia because of its stigma, like the way I used to mumble to co-workers that I was going on vacation "to Asia" and then quickly change the subject?

How does a 26 year-old presumably in good health cheerleader/flight attendant (not that there's anything wrong with that) drop dead on a vacation to Cambodia?

I've submitted a FOIA request for information from the US embassy about his death. I should be able to let you guys know what the records show in about two and half years.

In some cases people look healthy but a sudden change in diet and a hotter climate can contribute to heart failure. I know I lost two friends back in the years about 1975 and 1980 , who were non smokers, one being a light drinker and both slim build. Both in their late 20's, died from heart failure. One was a boilermaker/welder so fumes could have contributed to his death as this was a time way before any hard drugs were available in the area.

I think it was In Indonesia, there was a few deaths from some sort of chemical they used to treat the bed and kill bed bugs that caused the death of some tourists. I wonder if that has happened in a few cases here.

I'm guessing he died of a drug overdose, as they seem to be tight lipped about it, and if he died in an accident or something, you'd think they'd say so.

Cool. We'll be killing time. I'm sure it will go by very quickly.

I think a lot of people clicked on this article thinking it would be a sexy, female Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.
