American Beach Bum William Barron Arrested in Cambodia
It seems like the 32 year old American, William Barron, that was arrested on Koh Rong Island in Sihanoukville, Cambodia was quite the party animal.
He had been living in Prague, Czech Republic and owns/runs a backpacker bar called The Drunken Monkey in Prague. He's the owner of that bar and also seems like he's been running a pub crawl in Prague.
Here is what he says on his Facebook:
I was born on St. Patricks Day in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lived there until I moved to Vegas for college. Been back and forth living between Vegas, Prague, and Switzerland throughout school. I have been running a pub crawl in Prague for 5 years and just opened our own bar The Drunken Monkey. I have been lucky enough to be able to take off about 4 months off each year to Backpack around the world.
So, he's just backpacking around, without a care in the world. Visa? Who cares.
So him and his buddy Ollie/Oliver Montanari get picked up by Cambodian immigration police. William doesn't have a passport or visa or nothing. His buddy's passport expired years ago, LoL.
One of William Barron's friends asked him where he was living, which visa he had and now he got it, and William just replied, "Koh rong cambodia message for details."
Hmmm.
And no surprise he got picked up on 4/20, the international smoke out date. Looks like he's enjoying his time under arrest, drinking and playing cards with the Sihanoukville police.
Here was his status on 420:
Happy 4:20
This post is coming from a Cambodian Immigration Officers personal computer in Sihanoukville. Pretty nice guys all in all. Bummer they are keeping me over night though. Good news is they are going to get food, whiskey, and cards. Never a dull moment.
He hasn't posted on Facebook since.
Anyways, if you're going to backpack around the world in an X-Men shirt while partying and celebrating 4/20, the least you could do is keep your visa up to date in a country that allows you to fork out a few bucks a month and stay as long as you like.
I wonder what will happen to these two...

Re: Sihanoukville: Two foreigners arrested for expired visa
#2 Another fashion crime. And what does "accused of staying with no legal documents" mean ? No passport at all ?
The other guy had expired passport and visa and serious overstay. Both could have been arrested at any time then.
Does anyone know where they got picked up ? Guesthouses? Off the street ?
And that was this afternoon? You're on the ball, CEOCN.

Re: American Beach Bum William Barron Arrested in Cambodia
From the Phnom Penh Post:
Authorities in Preah Sihanouk province yesterday said they arrested two foreign nationals for overstaying their visas, at least one of whose visa, they said, is two years out of date.
Italian national Oliver Montanari, whose visa expired in 2012 and American national William Barron were taken into custody on Monday, after the Ministry of Interior’s General Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh discovered their visa situation, said newly appointed provincial police chief Chuon Narin.
“We decided to send them to the General Department of Immigration for legal action, and will send them home,” Narin said. “We found one has lived here with a visa that expired 890 days ago, and the other has no passport or any documentation.”
Narin declined to specify how Montanari and Barron’s illegal immigration statuses were detected.
A US national, who asked not to be named because his visa had also expired, said that an English and a French national were also recently arrested under similar circumstances.
