Cambodia News (Kandal): On March 24, 2020, at 07:50 pm, three kids who are brother and sister were arrested for stealing money in Pok Reusey Kandal village, Ksach Kandal district, Kandal. The suspects were identified as N*** Thim, a 12-year-old boy, a student, N*** Hong, a 14-year-old girl, a student, and N*** Thy, an 18-year-old boy, an electrician.

Mr Hai Rachana, a 39-year-old worker at Hatha Kasekor Bank, was victim of several thefts by the gang of teenagers. It started off as small-time, when the kids got into the man's house and stole two cases of instant noodles and a case of milk. That was on 30 January 2020. But then, two days later, on 1 February, the thieves returned to the house and stole 700 USD and 300,000 riels. On 4 February, they came back and stole 2,000 USD and 200,000 riels.

Then, for some reason, the teen gang came back to the same house on 24 March. However, this time the victim was ready for them, and when they attempted to sneak into his house at 8pm, he saw them on security cameras that he had installed. The man caught the young gang and took them to the police station.
The oldest brother in the family said that his brother and sister gave him 2,470 USD to buy a motorbike. [ His role in the thefts is not clear.]

Underage siblings, 18-year-old released after thieving spree
Kim Sarom | Publication date 27 March 2020 | 03:00 ICT

Authorities on Thursday released three siblings – two who were underage and another 18-year-old – who stole about $3,000 from their neighbours in Puk Russey commune, Khsach Kandal district, in Kandal province.

With their release, their parents have to return the money to the victims.

Two of the three siblings – a 12-year-old boy and his 13-year-old sister – are students. The 18-yar-old is an electrician.

Khsach Kandal police chief Men Sokhoeun told The Post that although one of them is 18, the provincial prosecutor gave the family the opportunity to pay compensation to the victim.

After they stole the money, they spent it on a motorbike. Authorities want their parents to pay the victim back in cash.

“Because two of them are underage, authorities just made the parents pay back the money,” Sokhoeun said.

Authorities confiscated the motorbike and would not return the children to their parents until they repaid the compensation in cash. When the parents repay the victim, they would allow the kids to be educated at home, he said.
