Alcohol sales in Cambodia are forbidden on 3 and 4 June 2017
The end of the world as we know it ? No, probably not, but you may have to pay $1 or 2 more for your case of beer with this announcement of an alcohol prohibition for the 3 and 4 June in order to avoid unrest during the commune elections.
Presumably all bars and restaurants and nightclubs that sell alcohol are also expected to shut, in Phnom Penh at least. Would be good to hear from people how this actually pans out.

Government Bans Selling and Consuming Alcohol
Published: 26/05/2017
Phnom Penh (FN), May 26 - The government banned selling and consuming alcohol during the Commune-Council Election Day.
The banning is effective on June 3-4, 2017 with the purpose to maintain security and avoid violences, traffic accidents alongside other social crimes, according to the government's recommendation released on Friday.
The government urged people of all levels including foreigners to suspend selling and consuming alcoholic so that the election process will be free, fair, and non-violent.

It's even worse than the thread's subject line! It's not just 'sales', but consuming alcohol will be forbidden too.
Presumably, there will be local cops doing door to door checks.
I hope they plan to compensate the et-chais for loss of income.

Who are they worried people will vote for if the population can drink? DJ Chee Khmer?
I understand the conflicting interests but banning alcohol isn't going to stop it from happening.

Happened when the king died too, from memory. Western bars carried on carrying on.

What has this photo got to do with alcohol sales ? Is the copper drunk. If not move it to the entertainment or sexual abuse section.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I think the suggestion is that the copper is climbing the tree to look through your windows, to see if you're drinking alcohol.

Alcohol banned during the elections
29 May 2017
Prime Minister HE has reinstated a two-day prohibition on the selling and drinking of alcohol during the commune elections next weekend.
Mr HE also appealed for people to show restraint, avoid violence and be careful when driving, attributing many unlawful incidents to alcohol consumption.
“All Cambodians and foreigners living in the kingdom must cooperate with the government,” Mr HE said.
“All those in the armed forces, administrative bodies, the National Election Committee, plus traders and vendors must suspend selling and drinking alcohol one day before the election and on election day itself, in order to prevent violence, traffic accidents and other incidents.
“The Minister of Information must cooperate with the NEC and relevant ministries and institutes to broadcast this instruction to all state and private media.”
