AirAsia flight QZ8501 Indonesia to Singapore loses contact

Post by Samouth »

An AirAsia flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore with 155 people onboard lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday, Indonesian media said, citing a Transport Ministry official.

Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa said the aircraft, flight number QZ 8501, lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic control tower at 6:17 am local time.

He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact.

Is there no way a location device can be fitted to aircraft that is strong enough to send a signal regardless its location and also not be in any way tampered or interfered with?

These systems, e.g. external black box, permanent satellite connection......exist already, but airlines do not use it at this time because they say that not enough airplanes are actually disappearing :)

Methinks a small investment in said external black box manufacturers may warrant investigation in the new year.

As an aside, how typically corporate to be retro active in these things as apposed to pro-active.

I'm pretty sure not fitting a black box is in direct contravention of IATA rules and gives the families of passengers a great avenue to sue Air Asia.

Let's hope...

of course they have black box... and the plane can be located...

when saying "lost contact" it means, the tower/controller don't have replies anymore. for some reason, weather or others... though, they wont publish any radio communication problems to the news...

imo, when there is a statement saying "lost contact", it means, they don't see it anymore on the radar and its not possible to locate it otherwise.

the plane is down.
normally, perhaps in asia its different due to the network of posts/satellites...?

Do you think that Obama will say that they strongly believe that North Korea was involved again?
