After Two Months in Cambodia, British Tourist Asks to be Sent Home
Re: After Two Months in Cambodia, British Tourist Asks to be Sent Home
And how much did the uk embassy charge you? If you wnet there with no passport and no money and noone in the Uk to send them money to pay for the emergency travel document would you have still got home? I have been in there when a guy who was mugged and lost his wallet and passport was trying to get assistance and they told him they could do nothing unless someone at home would send them the emergency travel document feeYerg wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 3:39 amAll that to one side, @John Bingham , I have lost a passport. (Actually stolen as opposed to lost.) I reported to my embassy (with no other formal ID save for an Omani driving license (not proper ID), and the UK embassy had me a temporary passport in 3 working days. I was able to travel through 3 countries. I got back to the UK, had an emergency passport appointment and received a new passport in 4 hours. I even remember the pub I sat in while waiting for the passport and the book I was reading while I waited. It ain't hard. It really isn't.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 2:22 pmI do realise for some people it could be stressful but for the majority it's not such a big deal. Emergency passports can be issued quite promptly for travel, and now with many embassies represented in Phnom Penh from countries that I'd suggest represent the majority of travellers to the country, it's pretty painless - even verifying ID. Some embassies act as representatives for other countries as well.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 2:07 pmTheir embassy might be thousands of km away in another country. They might miss their flight because they have no passport. With no proper ID it can be difficult to get anything official done.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:42 pm I've never quite understood the anguish and drama some people experience with the loss of a passport. Yes, it's bit of an inconvenience but embassies are able to remedy the problem without much fuss.

Re: After Two Months in Cambodia, British Tourist Asks to be Sent Home
Has anyone ever heard what happens to people after they go to immigration 'for help to be sent home'? I'd love to know what happens, how they are treated etc.
It seems there are so many of these losers dropping into immigration asking to be sent home. Is someone out there telling them 'pop down immi mate, they're incredibly helpful & will take all your worries away'.
All seems messed up to me & I hope Cambodian immigration gives them all a good WWE smack down.

In was repatriated from Bombay in 1976 by the British embassy, I had been in hospital in Goa with pneumonia and had no money and no family member who could front me the air fare, as Sinatra once sung "Blame it on my youth" I had to surrender my passport when I arrived back and had to pay back the air fare before getting it back.
I am pretty sure that in an emergency the same thing would happen now, But if anybody has been told by the embassy "sorry you are on your own we can do nothing" please post

NJH was an American wasn't he ? I am not sure how they deal with their people but i am certain that British citizens would get help to return home if no other options were available

Re: After Two Months in Cambodia, British Tourist Asks to be Sent Home
It was a long time ago but i still remember the pr*ck's name, Johnson.
Vice Consul Johnson, Australian consulate, Bangkok, 1975.
I was trying to get help for a random Australian girl who had gone totally psychotic. Totally.
I had her on my hands for 12 days and he would not lift a finger.
Possibly the most harrowed 12 days of my life.
(She was an Australian citizen, and i was a random not-australian trying to help her not get raped and murdered. He reckoned it was all my responsibility)
I had called her family in Perth myself - the pr*ck Johnson was good enough to give me their number but refused to call himself - let alone help to hospitalise and repatriate her.
Thank the Gods, her Dad flew up straight after i spoke to him.

The singlet wearing twats who camped outside the British Embassy didn't have much luck.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 5:05 pm And there have been plenty of other cases of abandonned Brits on CEO News.

I didn't see what happened to that bloke with the distended belly, did he die in cambodia ? Until i see firm evidence that a British citizen died in Cambodia or anywhere else in the world because the embassy refused help i will stand by what i said.

Can anybody give me a link to a British citizen who went to the embassy in Cambodia for help, was refused help and then died because of that refusal ?
