Their embassy might be thousands of km away in another country. They might miss their flight because they have no passport. With no proper ID it can be difficult to get anything official done.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:42 pm I've never quite understood the anguish and drama some people experience with the loss of a passport. Yes, it's bit of an inconvenience but embassies are able to remedy the problem without much fuss.

I do realise for some people it could be stressful but for the majority it's not such a big deal. Emergency passports can be issued quite promptly for travel, and now with many embassies represented in Phnom Penh from countries that I'd suggest represent the majority of travellers to the country, it's pretty painless - even verifying ID. Some embassies act as representatives for other countries as well.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 2:07 pmTheir embassy might be thousands of km away in another country. IF ur able to prove u had a passport before.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:42 pmI've never quite understood the anguish and drama some people experience with the loss of a passport. Yes, it's bit of an inconvenience but embassies are able to remedy the problem without much fuss.
I was robbed in India back in 75, traveling on the train, ( looking back i was stupid an set up but after 2 days of traveling with no sleep the mind does not work right)
Made my way to the US embassy in Delhi, (conductor let me ride for free) had to pay for a wire to the states to confirm my US citizenship. Response came back......no record of us citizenship or passport being issued. Great
So they told me get 3 people that had seen my passport * yea right, i always go around showing my us passport to a bunch of people i dont know
Anyway went back to the gh that was allowing me to stay in exchange for getting people to stay there, bribed 2 guys &a girl with lunch if they would go to the embassy with me.
Ok, 1st part done. BUT i couldn't just leave India, now i needed a stamp showing i came into India legally. That took another 4 months with daily visits to the foreigners regional registration office .
I refused to pay Backshish so they had me come back everyday. Wasn't all that bad as it was aircon and they offered me tea and biscuits and had a good library of old books.
My mom had sent $300, 4 months before and with what was left had enough for a ticket to Germany and a couple 100 grms of O to sell .
So although, for most it might not be a pain getting a lost/stolen passport replaced, for me it was an adventure
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

This guy/ clown was politely , but firmly advise by myself & another entatey to keep away from the thieving whores at Soyia beer mall ,especially the overweight, cunningly manipulating, boss of thieves & general vice queen ( a certain Ms Vee )
However .. . . he knew better,couldn't and
,wouldn't or could be advised and take in some accurate & practical advice .It just went rapidly downhill from there. It was a s l o w Train wreak that even became a bet on how long before his pastey face on this particular web site.( Tommy " won "). . As soon as Vee had him ,it was .,, , " Lambs to the slaughter "..She's as evil as they come .

All that to one side, @John Bingham , I have lost a passport. (Actually stolen as opposed to lost.) I reported to my embassy (with no other formal ID save for an Omani driving license (not proper ID), and the UK embassy had me a temporary passport in 3 working days. I was able to travel through 3 countries. I got back to the UK, had an emergency passport appointment and received a new passport in 4 hours. I even remember the pub I sat in while waiting for the passport and the book I was reading while I waited. It ain't hard. It really isn't.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 2:22 pmI do realise for some people it could be stressful but for the majority it's not such a big deal. Re: After Two Months in Cambodia, British Tourist Asks to be Sent Home
In another country, far far away, when the ex- had her handbag snatched along withboth of my passports, it was relatively easy.
British embassy, slightly less so than Irish. Irish passport had to be dealt with in Delhi, all done by email, fax, and telephone. British passport, done locally, all done by stubbornness dealing with their outsourced procedures. Passports resolved in fairly short order.
The people who get into greatest bother, I think, are the same who probably shouldn’t have travelled beyond Brighton* in the first place, and fail to heed any advice given.
I guess ‘murricans can insert ‘Jersey’ or something similar.

He is a taxpayer and pays their wages. the UK now has a reputation of pissing on foreigners in the UK (Windrush, generation, Euro citizens) and UK citizens outside the UK . Acceptable if they reduced the tax I pay on my UK pension because i get bugger all out of them, i use bugger all of their services so I am paying for nothing. The great british ripoff. What they should do is get them pout of the hole they have dug amd slap it on their tax code to get it back.
