AeroCambodia CEO Brian Naswall Caught Sexually Abusing Kids

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

We call those 'girls'.
Sure, I used the term "girls" too in my post. It is also possible for someone to be a woman and also legally underage.
How so?
yeah a woman is a term given to a girl who has 'become of age' and is now classed as an adult

Not sure about the anti-Christian hostility here. Many high level officials in cpp and cnrp are Christian
1- Khmer culture and Buddhist faith both reject prostitution of any kind voluntary or not
2- prostitution thrives because of the money dirty old westerners throw at it.
3- if you are a hooker and het HIV it is your karma. If you sleep with a hooker and get HIV it is your karma.
4- if you get HIV in Cambodia you’re going to die. Don’t involve with prostitution and you won’t get the punishment.
5- Our culture is against prostitutes, only westerners like you or Khmer not born here want it to be legal. Go back to your own country
ive read numerous times that 80% of the people that use brothels in cambodia are khmer men, i dont think the underage girls were brought in to please the foreign men, i feel it would be the other way round that the foreign men use them because they was already available, ive also read khmer men prefer young virgin girls for numerous reasons

Historically, the age of consent was the age of menses setting in. That's when biologically speaking we consider someone an adult. In the days where puberty comes earlier and earlier and we have decided to legally define what a "child" is by age - it is entirely possible for a woman to be under age.

I went through puberty at the age of 11... biologically speaking I was a man. Emotionally, intellectually, etc. I was a kid. Fortunately for me, or perhaps unfortunately, I was able to hold onto my virginity long enough to remain spectacularly unable to cope with the emotional consequences of a relationship going sour. I'm sure they should teach that bit at school... though whether it would have helped I have no idea.

It's a weird world where someone is considered a "child" but can be sent out to work a full-time job and still not be allowed to choose to consent to sexual intercourse. Which is how it goes in much of the developing world. Fortunately for me, it's not something that will ever affect me - I prefer my partner to be about the same age as me; it prevents us from having to discuss what she did at school that day...

Virginity is far more highly prized across Asia than it is in the West (with the possible exception of the evangelical heartlands of the United States). By and large the "free love" era of the 60s changed Western expectations of their partners. We don't look to marry young or expect our partners not to come with a sexual history. It's one of the reasons that divorcees in Asia often go for expat men - their own men won't touch them. We also don't tend to have a cut off point beyond which we no longer see someone as a potential partner - in China if a woman is more than 27 she is considered "left behind" and it's going to be very hard for her to find a Chinese man (even with a massive shortage of women in China), I believe it's similar here.

oh yeah i know all that, ive been studying the Chbab Srey recently, and been discussing it with my khmer lady friends, but for the men it is not seen the same as with the woman, and its the men using the brothels

What, outside of the city? My god man, what are you suggesting? We might get the Lexus dirty...

Yes I suspected that kind of scenario

It's not outside the city and there has been at least one NGO there for more than a decade.

Sure, but I'm not all that sure that posters who haven't spent so much time here would. A whole lot of people seem to believe that NGOs drive around in Lexus 4WDs. In a decade I've only ever spotted one small Lexus with an ONG plate.

It's definitely an overplayed stereotype, but I've been here a much shorter time than you and have seen many more than one luxury SUV with ONG plates - and never in the provinces.
