73yo Canadian pedophile fights longer sentence.
Pierre Deslauriers, a 73 yo Canadian man who was arrested in Siem Reap in Febuary 2014, was given the minimum sentence of 7 years for sexual exploitation of minors. The prosecution is appealing against the sentence as too light and are asking for it to be increased to 11 years. Verdict is due on October 5.

Deslauriers, who works as a photographer, was convicted of indecent exposure in 1968 and received a suspended sentence for sexual assault in 1987. He was also punished with five years in prison in 1994 for the sexual assault of two girls aged 3 and 5 during a photo shoot, La Presse reported.

Re: 73yo Canadian pedophile fights longer sentence.
It least one detail is missing here.
Can a Canadian tell us the name of this mysterious "banned magazine" ... or is this the sort of journalistic
invention known as a 'plot device' ... ?
Are printed-word magazines banned in Canada?
Some imported videos* used to be banned in Canada and every year the authorities dutifully published a list
of the titles of the prohibited videos. Sophisticated CEO patrons can probably guess for themselves what sort
of unspeakable and indescribable filth the prim Canadians were unwilling to have sullying their shores.
* This was back before the internet.

The Meese Report was intended to be red meat thrown to the Christian Right in the USA.
http://cultronix.eserver.org/califia/meese/
As well as pissing away immense sums of public money, which could have been far better-spent, it proved
an unintended source of vulgar hilarity.
The final report, when published, solemnly listed such depraved and corrupting movies as
"Cathy's Sore Bottom" and "Teenage Dog Orgy." [The final report was printed as the taxpayers'
expense, of course but may - possibly - have covered its cost by becoming a cult object among
the jaded and sophisticated.]

The name of the magazine doesn't really matter. The information here is that Pierre Deslauriers has publicly defended pedophilia and that he has prior convictions of sexual assault against minors. He was convicted of assaulting really little kids - two girls aged 3 and 5 - in 1994.Deslauriers presented a pro-pedophilia lecture at a sexuality symposium at Collège de Maisonneuve. He also published an article defending his position in a banned magazine,
He is a creep who molests small children. That really has nothing to do with Canadian pornography laws.
In Cambodia, he is convicted for sexual assault on 4 boys under the age of 12. He says he is innocent, but this seems doubtful when his prior history is taken into account. The present question is whether or not a 7 year sentence should be increased.

Verdict:CEOCambodiaNews wrote: Verdict is due on October 5.
A Canadian pedophile, who tried to commit suicide by slicing open his belly with a pocketknife as police in Cambodia moved in to arrest him, was ordered to serve seven years in prison and pay compensation to four young boys he molested while visiting.
Pierre Deslauriers, 72, of Montreal, was arrested in a dramatic raid in 2014 in Siem Reap, the tourist gateway to the famous Angkor Wat temples: confronted for having paid young boys for sex, he locked himself in his hotel room and slashed his wrists and belly before police broke in and wrestled away the knife.
He was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was formally charged with sexually molesting four boys aged 10 to 14, by Siem Reap’s anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police.
He was convicted later that year and on Wednesday, the appeals court of Phnom Penh upheld a sentence against Deslauriers of seven years imprisonment and a payment of 10 million Riel (about C$3,230) under Cambodia’s Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation act.
Deslauriers was also to be deported back to Canada after serving his sentence and banned from returning to the country for an additional 10 years.
