Kratie province authorities have raided a house and confiscated hundreds of myna birds that were due to be sold for food in Chet Borey district’s Bos Leav commune.
Commune police chief Ky Thy said police and forestry officials found about 650 live myna birds at a house in Prek Samann village yesterday morning.

“The birds had been caught from the forest to be sold to be eaten,” he said, adding the house was owned by a man named Pok Neng, 37.
“The illegal bird trade is a violation of our kingdom’s laws,” Mr Thy said. “Forestry officials are preparing documents to send the case to court.”

The birds were transferred to the forestry administration’s Kan Tout camp for release back into the wild.
Whole deep-fried myna birds are a popular snack in some parts of the country.

Are these native mynahs? Indian mynahs have taken over the country destroying the native bird life. I trap them and gas them with the car.

These are actually native. Not Indian, but White-vented Mynahs. And the invasive species in Oz is Common Mynah, another bird native to Cambodia.

We call the bad mynahs Indian Hanno. They have taken over Cambodia over the last ten years, I hardly used to see them. Here in Australia the council trapped and killed 35,000 of the bastards last year. I have three to go on our property but they are too clever to go in the trap now.

They are also a big problem in New Zealand. They are the hyenas of the bird world but are a very intelligent bird often ganging up to chase away bigger birds and I have seen them invading a kingfishers nest which was a hole in a clay bank, then dragging out the young chick and eating it. All the time the adult kingfisher was swooping in to attack the myna with no success.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I don't care what you call them, the official name is Common Mynah (Acridotheres tristis). Whilst some people call them Indian, it is not correct. They have not taken over Cambodia, they have always been a native here; unlike in OZ, NZ, or the Middle East where they have indeed become a pest.

So are these the little birds I sometimes see on roadside grills? I tried one once, but there wasn't much meat on it.

They might be sparrows. Don't see the point in eating those, there is about 3 grams of meat on them.
