The victim was identified as ANNE COPPLESTONE, 48 years old, a New Zealand national, who was a director of Hope for Cambodian Children Foundation (HFCCF) in Sala Balat village, Sangke district, Battambang. The police concluded that the state of the body indicated that the victim might have died a few days beforehand, before the weekend, on June 19, 2020. After the examination, the autopsy team reported the information to the embassy.

Anne Copplestone's body was taken to keep at the Teuk Thlar pagoda in Phnom Penh, waiting for further instructions on how to proceed.

Dear Friends,

As the financial year draws to a close, I would like to personally thank all of our donors, sponsors and supporters for their generosity during the 2019/2020 financial year. This has made a difference to the lives of the children, families and communities with whom we operate.

Your generosity has made the following possible:

§ Health programs to help prevent the spread of HIV from mothers to babies
§ Education programs for over 400 children, from pre-school to high school
§ University Scholarships – we currently have 11 students in fully sponsored courses
§ Skills training in sewing, building trades and moto repairs to help young adults become self sufficient
§ Enterprise start-ups to work co-operatively with poor households to start a small business, such as raising chickens or sewing in the home.

I would also like to especially invite those who have not previously donated to HOPE to consider making an initial donation. To those who have donated previously, a further donation would be most welcome.

Why donate to Hope?

For every $1 of funding received by HOPE (other than direct Fundraising costs), 95 cents goes directly towards our projects. The other 5 cents is necessary for administrative costs[1].

I am very proud of this as very few charities can boast figures like these.

The current Pandemic has curtailed many of our fundraising activities in Australia, so your donation will help us to continue our operations. I would also like to especially invite those who have not previously donated to HOPE to consider making an initial donation. To those who have donated previously, a further donation would be most welcome.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely

Grahame Lewis

Kiwi children's foundation director in Cambodia dies
Jake Kenny 19:43, Jun 23 2020
A Kiwi director of a children's foundation in Cambodia has been found dead in her hotel apartment.

Hope for Cambodian Children director Anne Copplestone had been working in Battambang, Cambodia. It is understood she may have suffered a fall.

Copplestone's staff raised the alarm on Monday morning when she did not report to work, after she was last seen entering the building on Friday night. The hotel manager then discovered Copplestone dead in her room.

The Chhaya Guest House hotel manager, who asked to be referred to as "Mr. Lee", told Stuff that Copplestone appeared to have had a "sudden fall" and there were signs of bleeding.

The New Zealand embassy in Bangkok was aware of a death of a New Zealander in Cambodia, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) spokesperson said.

Christchurch-born Copplestone, 48, had been staying in one of the hotel's apartments for at least a year while working for the local children's foundation, Lee said.

Lee said he notified the local police and doctor's offices immediately, and provided a copy of her passport for the authorities to verify her identity.

Hope for Cambodian Children chairman Graeme Lewis said Copplestone was well-respected and loved by all of her staff and the children she worked with. The charity is Australia-based.

"You'd often see her and the kids having a laugh and a cuddle, she excelled with them and was just as effective from the management side as well," Lewis said.

Her passion was to help children in poverty, she loved being there and remained in Cambodia during the coronavirus pandemic when she didn't have to, he said.

"Anne was a real Kiwi. She would always remind me of my Australian heritage and that we couldn't play rugby."

She was "fun-loving" but could be serious when needed and was trustworthy and reliable, Lewis said.

"It's not easy to find people like her."

Helen Copplestone, Anne's sister, said her sister was wholly devoted to the local community ever since taking up her director role in Cambodia.

"She worked with children in poverty to help them break down the barriers to realise their dreams for a better life," she said.

Is this an independent operation or part of the Christian evangelist group that provides education for the children of other missionaries?

There's this Hope, which is a Christian-based organization.
https://www.hope.edu.kh/
https://www.hope.edu.kh/admissions/

And there is also this Australian NGO organization which is Hope for Cambodian Children: https://hopeforcambodianchildren.org/
It seems to be a totally different NGO, and unlike the other Hope organization, it does not appear to be faith-based.

Any further information is welcome.

There are some pretty gruesome photos of the scene online (won't post them). It looks like she was violently sick and threw up a lot of blood and then fell backwards.
