Another Violent Death* of a Bavet Casino Employee

Cambodia News, (Svay Rieng): In the early hours of the morning of April 20, 2023, not long after midnight, Bavet police received a report of a decapitated body of a woman which was found in a bathroom on Kampong Spean Road in Bavet Kandal Village, Bavet City.
The victim was identified as Morn Srey Mey, female, 24 years old, an employee at Dynasty Casino in Bavet. She is originally from Kandal Krom Village, Kandal Province.

The specialized force of Svay Rieng Provincial Police is investigating the murder case to find the killer and bring him to justice. The woman's body was handed over to her relatives for funeral rites after the autopsy.

Bavet beheader arrested after failed suicide bid

A man, suspected of the brutal murder and beheading of a young casino worker, has been captured by police late last night after attempting to cheat justice by a failed suicide bid

The killer was arrested by the police of Chhep District Inspectorate, Preah Vihear Province, on the night of April 20, 2023.

According to a source from a senior police officer in Preah Vihear province, the suspect attempted to commit suicide by swallowing pills, but was resuscitated before he could die

The man will now be handed over to the Svay Rieng Provincial Department of Criminal Affairs to continue the proceedings.

The victim worked as a card dealer at a casino in Bavet city.

The murderer had slashed her throat and then beheaded her at about 1 am yesterday in a rental room at Bavet Kandal village in Svay Rieng province.

Bavet city police spokesman, Major Keo Vuthy, named the victim as Morn Srey Mey, 24.

She was identified as a card dealer working with the Dynasty Casino & Hotel in Bavet city. She hailed from Banteay Dek commune, Kandal province.

Maj Vuthy noted that at 1:30 am yesterday the body of Srey Mey was found by the landlord in her room at Bavet Kandal village, Bavet city.

He said that the landlord immediately alerted police.

He added that the victim’s head was severed from the body and thrown inside the bathroom.

“Examination of the victim’s body reveals she was killed by slashing to the throat and afterwards beheaded with a samurai sword or a meat cleaver inside her rental room,” he said.

“The killer fled and did not leave anything inside the room,” he added.

He added that Srey Mey’s body has been sent to a local pagoda pending further investigations.

Maj Gen Vireak scolded online media for posting raw photos of the murder victim, stating that such posts violate ethical codes for journalism and affect police investigations.
