235 Chinese Arrested

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

VoIP scammers to be deported next week

More than 230 Chinese nationals caught operating Voice over Internet Protocol scams in Takeo province last week will be deported on December 10, a senior police officer said.

Lieutenant General Uk Heisela, chief of investigations at the General Immigration Department, said that the Chinese government is sending three planes to take the 235 Chinese nationals back home.

He said Chinese officials wanted to send the planes to pick them up on Thursday, but the General Department of Immigration asked for more time to process necessary documents.

A department report also showed that there were 373 Chinese nationals who committed extortion and fraud using VoIP, including 66 Chinese women, from the beginning of this year until October 15.

Of course the PRC are behind the busts. It's such a huge business all over the world, I get phone calls from a Chinese speaker regularly in Australia. As do many other people, they just call at random looking for victims.
