22Yo Woman Suicides Over Bank Debt

Cambodia News (Kampong Thom): On January 13, 2021, at 1 pm, a 22-year-old woman committed suicide by taking pills because she had a debt at the bank in Dong village, Baray District, Kampong Thom. The victim was identified as Seang Sreynich, 22 years old.

The victim was found by family members, who reported the incident to the police. After receiving the information, the police went to the scene to examine the body and found packets of sleeping pills by the body. There was no suspicious mark on the victim, so the doctor and the police concluded that the victim committed suicide by taking 20 sleeping pills, causing her death. The body was returned to the family for funeral preparation. RIP.

Heartbreaking. The same age, given name, and province as my niece.

To get to a point where you feel there is no way out...over...MONEY.

This madness has to stop. Young people here need more education on how debt and loans work.

Very sad and probably a small amount of money by Western standards. Just senseless.
