Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Battambang: On July 15 at 8 pm, an 18-year-old woman, British expat REBECCA ANN HURST, got her bag snatched in Kamakor village, Battambang. Two thieves were arrested and identified as Phon Sanpeng, 17 years old, and Kong Rotanak, 18 years old.

The colonel Phet Vanny said that the victim was riding her bicycle on the street, when suddenly, the suspects rode up on their motorbike to snatch her bag, and then ran away. The local police saw the incident and they chased the suspects, who were put under arrest. The police confiscated the motorbike, and they recovered the stolen bag, which contained a phone, some money(4500 Riel and $ 7) and a powerbank, and restored it to the British woman.

I miss the days when these scumbags would get a good working over, I mean ran into the door jamb repeatedly, before being presented to the press.

This is the second aggression reported on a young British woman in Battambang this week. Are there more reports on social media which find their way to the forum, or are there more little runts on motorbikes targeting foreigners, and women in particular ?
:(
Not so long ago, if anyone asked me about crime and violence in Cambodia, I would have said that, outside of PP and Shv, violent crime on foreigners and bag snatchings are rare. At the same time, there has been a general increase in the number of drug arrests, and there seems to be meth in every corner of Cambodia these days, so could that be related ?

Bag snatchings were certainly common in Temple Town 10 years ago.

Meth is fucking everywhere.
It's scary to watch these guys start to use and then go downhill real quick.
The lack of education leads to a situation where they have no idea at all about what it is they are doing to themselves.
The kids out here use all the time and it's only a matter of time before some real bad shit will go down.
