16yo girl exploited and beaten for 4 years by her Chinese-Vietnamese boss

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Strange no lynch mob appears for this.
"The revolution did more than legally create the United States; it transformed American society... Far from remaining monarchical, hierarchy-ridden subjects on the margin of civilization, Americans had become, almost overnight, the most liberal, the most democratic, the most commercial minded, and the most modern people in the world." - Gordon S. Wood

Whats wrong with the family not checking the well being of their daughter, i am sure they have sold her for 100 USD.
Sad case no matter and the victim is poor venerable little girl, wish her all the luck and hopefully she gets the help she needs.

of course, infants are regularly sold by impoverished parents who lack the means to look after them. often to childless couples who cherish them as their own children,if lucky.

my gf had many people wanting to adopt her, but she was her father's favorite of 9 surviving kids.

the whole family lived for some years in a bed with a tarp over it just behind where the small market was until recently in SV.
Dad had TB, and could not work, so all the little kids went along with him to collect cans at 4 AM from about the time they could walk.
they ate a lot of weeds, fish, rats, frogs and whatever they could catch- and family sent them rice from land in Takeo.

now ppl in SV are really fucked, because even lowly laboring jobs are being taken by PRC people. even the beach sellers are screwed as casino workers do not buy fruit or bracelets on the beach now it has turned into a wasteland.

i wish people in the developed world realized that 80% of people live like this.

I can relate to that, i have been through that and worst not a lot of people here can say that.
sadly it will get worst as more PRC come in and everything turns to business and money for the rich & powerful. rest will continue to eat shit, i only wish they have the change they badly need.

You don't know that. In fact if it's anything like what happened in China, standards of living will go up in Cambodia after PRC investment. And why are you just blaming the PRC?

Just like we can ask where was mom throughout this child's ordeal, we can ask where is the Cambodian government? The PRC will act in the best interests of the PRC; its not their fault if the Cambodian government is lame and ineffectual.
To gladly teach and gladly learn.

actually it has changed, 7 years ago, a simple admin job i advertise would get 10 to 20 applicants, now i cant even get 1 applicant, the casino job market has definitely benefited the locals but the main point is how long? also of course there are still a small fraction of locals left behind, even for these disadvantage groups hv looked up recently, lots of construction jobs, cleaning jobs, i have problem finding construction workers n cleaning lady too, thats my direct on the ground observation

Poor kid. I hope the old cow gets sever treatment from the legal system (which we all know won’t happen).

I feel sorry for the poor girl now being plastered all over the net so this can be dug up for years.

I wish Cambodia would have a policy like most western countries about not naming and showing the victim in such cases, especially when it’s a minor.
