You can see difference between VT/CN or KH veggies at the market. I rather buy Cambodian veggies, even if it is more expensive.

You assume they don't use pesticides here? There's a sort of romanticism with city folk in PP who seem to believe the whole "natural Khmer produce" spiel and the farmers play on it hard to make their gullible asses buy fruit/veggies. Half the pesticides sold at O Russei are illegal in Thailand and elsewhere in the world. Go ahead a look. It's actually quite shocking. It's maybe still better than Vietnam, but it's a bit foolish to assume produce here is somehow devoid of chemicals. I agree that generally, I prefer Khmer veggies, a lot of them are also tasteless (tomatoes, carrots) and the variety is still extremely limited, so imports via Vietnam/Dalat are necessary.

I dont think there is no pesticides in Cambodia, but I have trusted sellers in the market for 4 years already. You can see if veggie looks plastic, like new, without eaten holes from animals etc. Buy VN pork or KH pork and you"ll see difference in taste and meat structure.
And tomatoes taste shit everywhere in SE Asia, maybe I have eaten 5 times good tomatoes in 14 years. That"s because they are difficult to grow here because of moisture, you cant grow nice Mediterranean varieties here.

I have avocados from my own garden and most have a small hole in it. Squirrels try almost each of them. No pesticides used.

I don't think 'no holes' is proof of sensible pesticide use.

I remember bugs crawling in my cauliflower that I bought at O'russei in 2009. I haven't prepared a meal for myself in 10 years though.

Also I don't trust the eggs at the market. I saw a news piece on Al Jazeera about fake food in China and someone showed the presenter how to make eggs out of chemicals. I suspect this is why Cambo eggs often have such an unpleasant texture and why the shells stick to them after being boiled.

What, they fabricate eggs in the shell and sell them profitably at under 10 cents each?
Sorry, this is not logical.
Fresh eggs stick to the shell. you have to leave them for a few days before boiling.
The eggs they sell here are shitty because they are battery produced and fed a ration with a lot of fish meal in it.

The vast majority of produce in the city come from Vietnam. I'd be curious to know the figure, but I reckon 70%. It all arrives at Psah Damko market around 3-4am and goes to all the various markets and supermarkets. I agree that those huge 30cm carrots taste like cardboard and yeah, the only good tomatoes are the cheery ones from Dalat. No other varieties are particularly good/sweet. Some of the "Natural Garden" shops are pretty nice: mostly Khmer veggies and all fresh, "normal sized" and at fairly good prices (comparable to local markets). But I never trust any of the "organic" labels around. No governing body to regulate it, neighbouring land uses pesticides, water table and paddy water full of pesticides... It's like a hot new word they like to use.

Mrs Cargo asks the Kandal market sellers before she buys: 'is this produce local aka from Cambodia?'.

They say: 'yes'....should she be worried?

I think they are not going to say: 'this produce is from Vietnam' are they?
