Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

PassApp Tutktuk Divers Protest Against Poipet Casino Policy

PassApp drivers hold protest over casino pickup policy
Nearly one hundred PassApp rickshaw drivers staged a protest yesterday in front of the Poipet City Hall in Banteay Meanchey province to demand permission allowing them to enter a casino to pick up passengers.

Bros Mao, a driver for the ride-hailing app, yesterday said Paramex Casino prevents the drivers from picking up passengers from within the casino compound, preventing them from earning money.

Mr Mao said the company argues drivers cannot pick up passengers inside the compound because it is private property.

“The company should be tolerant with rickshaw drivers because their customers inside book us through [PassApp],” he said.

Mr Moa said the company only allows rickshaw drivers to go inside if they pay monthly fees, but PassApp works differently because it is a ride-hailing mobile application.

He said the company’s customers use the app call on rickshaw drivers to pick them up.

“We suggest that the company allow us to pick up their guests,” Mr Mao said. “We do not disturb the company. We just enter to pick up customers.”

Mr Mao said rickshaw drivers in Poipet began working with PassApp after the mobile application gained popularity in Phnom Penh.

“Since the app became available in Poipet last year, it has helped a lot of us support our living,” he said.
