I need to do a full restauration of a LandRover Defender (station wagon 110 TDi with 400k on the clock). That thing hasn't been started the last 3½ years and now water got in (the cabin, not the motor). So a serious amount of work and I expect it to keep me busy for the next 2 years. But I need a dry, even and hard surface place for that time to rent. So far I have spotted a warehouse in Sen Sok, but the $330 for 30m² sounds a bit much to me. I have no issues with no electricity and/or no water, since I could run autonomously on that. I would appreciate any hints or recommendations (Khmer only speaking landlord is no problem)

Can’t you just rent a ground floor house/apartment and park it in your living room like the locals do?

I had that idea as well, but the height is 2.35m and even if I get it through the door, most of those places are not that long (maybe 7m in total, however, most of the time there is a bathroom in the way) so it would get quite cramped.

You'd need to jump on the warehouse in sensok quick.

Most places around the city that can accommodate several (maybe six) vehicles go from 500-1500 a month.

Thanks for the advice. I have no clue about the current rates, but since a lot of the sections are empty in this compound, so I thought it is high (we all know that Khmer usually have their idea of the price and don't lower it, even if the place stays empty for years)

$330 x 24 months = $7920

Might as well build your own garage for that money.

Yes, I had done this calculation a well. But I did not find a reasonable alternative so far (like renting the same area for $50 and build a structure on it - doable, but despite finding an according location, is it really that more cheap?)

If you are interested in sharing a space then I potentially have space available, although currently a huge mess and needs a tidy up. Also have a khmer mechanic on hand (I also once was one) and back home have an old Land Rover also.

Anyway, located not far from Chhuk Meas market

Not sure, why I did not get a message on this reply, but I can be quite messy as well, when it comes to parts and unfinished work, so putting 2 guys with the same problem together might not have ended up well...

On the other hand: someone with LR experience is quite rare here in Cambodia. There is one guy that owns 12 of the old ones, but although I met him a couple of times, he never replies to messages. There are a few others,but difficult to get in touch with as well. Which is very surprising, given that in any county I have been so far there is a hardcore Landrover comunity, which is more than happy to have a new member. Well, KoW...

Anyway, I am loosing track: if anyone looks for a warehouse to rent here in Phnom Penh: It turned out, that I was quite wrong with the dimensions of the warehouse in Sen Sok: 10.5m times 5m, gives you roughly 50m² for $330 and an ultra cool, Chinese owner - for sure not the usual Chinese guy. Drives a RAM, speaks very limited English. I assume because he is Chinese and the location is not that perfect, a huge amount of his units are empty. But if someone looks for a warehouse that is perfectly acceptable by big trucks, has huge roll doors (full width and height around 5m), I can only highly recommend this place. You can combine up to 10 units to one, meaning you can do serious big projects there as well and if you take a unit at a corner (2 units rental minimum required for that), the "sidewall" is no sidewall, but 2 additional 5m rolling doors
