Factory minimum doesn't include meals and accommodation. Live in helpers usually also get medication, doctor fees, clothes, as well as some money for the family when they go home.

Yes, and some people will prefer the perks (lodging, food, health care, work conditions), to a bigger salary. As long as the conditions of the contract are understood and agreed by both sides, I don't see a problem.Username Taken wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 1:23 pm Factory minimum doesn't include meals and accommodation. However, cost of living is rising, and if you want someone beyond basic toilet care, someone that can take initiative and that you can trust to work alone, I'd suggest that $120pm, plus food and accomodation, would not be too much to pay. You want a carer, not a servant, if I understand right. My 2c.
Re: Live in Helper in Phnom Penh Sen Sok
Eight years ago I hired a lady to take care of my aged mother (90 years old). I paid $300 per month (in Siem Reap where wages are lower than Phnom Penh) as I could not in conscience pay less. It was difficult to find someone. Khmer ladies of any age intensely dislike leaving their families to live-in. I did get someone in the end and she was excellent. I ended up getting two additional helpers too because it was not possible for one person to lift or turn over my mother. I paid the extra helpers around $100 per month as they only came a couple of hours a day. Sadly my mother died after only a few months.
If you can really get someone for $125 a month then good luck but be prepared for her to leave at any time for higher wages. $125 per month is NOT generous. I would be lucky to find a house cleaner for that. You say you have a neighbour who pays $90 - that is just appalling. If you are American I dont know how you can pay so little in good conscience to look after someone who is perhaps your mother and apparently has severe health problems.

Cant believe that you value a person taking care of your mother at such a rate. Its just disgusting and shows no respect..to ANYBODY.
work is for people who cant find truffles
Re: Live in Helper in Phnom Penh Sen Sok
What you need big,n,is a qualified p.c.a (personal carer assistant),who has certificates in medication, lifting, higene experience etc, and another thing is a big,n wallet. The wage you have offered is just plain wrong, what a tight ass

This is an easy pile-on for many.
A nurse or Jr Doctor start on around $300/400 pcm, once graduated. Engineers start 300/400 pcm. He's just looking for a live body, no special qualifications. I'm sure there's a person for the job somewhere.
$125/175 live in, working legal hours and with proper social insurance etc isn't terribly unreasonable.

Re: Live in Helper in Phnom Penh Sen Sok
I thought bargirls/waitresses were paid like $150 a month to work 10-12 hours a day, 28 days a month. Then they have to rent a shitty room shared with other girls and buy food, etc.
$125 a month plus room and board (with own room(?) in a foreigner's(?) house) for an easy gig of watching an old lady doesn't seem too bad to me.
Of course, once she moves in, she's at the mercy of the employer who can make her scrub floors and toilets 24 hours a day.

What makes you think that I would abuse a woman who is asked to care for my mother in law? I will do whatever I can to make sure that she feels a part of the family and seek to get her to care for my mother in law as a part of her own family.
I am wondering if anyone is thinking about their own stream of revenue at this critical time in history. I thought that this would be recieved as a blessing to those poor Khmer as a blessed opportunity to secure some income when all other streams of revenue seem to disappearing.

Oh a what a warm heated caring person you are doing your bit for the poor Cambodians
Just a shame in ten or more years working for you they will remain poor Cambodians
