What happened to the food at Larry’s?

Post by newkidontheblock »

Finally managed to drag missus out to Larry’s last night. Based on the many reviews expected a cozy atmosphere and delicious food. Cozy atmosphere with a little kid playing on the floor, food, not so much.

Started off with fruit shakes. The fruit was not ripe, not sweet. Missus ended up picking tough mango fibers from her teeth.

Then the highly decorated pizza. Disappointing to say the least. Overly salty, thin crust pizza with toppings the middle and cheese on top. With chili oil, Tabasco sauce, pepper and salt as condiments on the side.

Layer of thick cut onions with some pepperoni, ground sausage, and green and red peppers. All thick cut on a thin crust pizza. All salty, undercooked toppings.

Will try Luigi’s next. Hope it is better.

Try Pizza Company if you want doughy bland crap.

Thanks for the insightful comment. I didn’t know that you enjoyed eating your pizza on a bed of raw onions. And putting hot oil, tobacco sauce, pepper, and salt on top.

I like my thin crust pizzas to have thinly sliced toppings so everything cooks evenly. Usually thin crust pizzas have toppings on top of the cheese because the cheese cooks faster. I usually put Parmesan cheese, hot pepper flakes, and oregono on mine.

Chicago style pies need deep dish crusts to hold the ingredients inside for a longer cooking time and the cheese as a covering on top. Pizzeria UNO’s or even better, Giordano’s.

Hopefully Luigi’s will be more tasty.

For me there was a change in Larry's pizza from great to not good at all. Haven't tried them for about 2 years so can't comment on the current offering.

Generally I find the food at Larry's to be really good for what it is trying to be (unpretentious tasty food) but there is the ocassional miss (maybe chef's day off?)

You don’t take a proper Cambodian woman to Larry’s.

The food at Larry's has never been as awesome as some of the old codgers make it out to be, and I've eaten there a bunch over the years. The Thanksgiving buffet Atlas did last year absolutely shits over Larry's Thanksgiving/xmas meals.

Truth.
If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

This.

A gentleman does not take a Cambodian woman who is not a hooker to Larry's, certainly not at night. Cozy atmosphere? It's full of old sexpats and female staff who used to work in hooker bars massaging those old sexpats for lady drinks. And then the staff girls get knocked up and their kids are crawling on the floor.

Taking your wife there is not unlike that cringeworthy scene in Taxi Driver where Travis takes his date to a porno movie.

I personally took that as a insult to one of the most loveliest ladies I have ever known who works there and has never ever worked in a bar before
or given massages.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I don't know about Atlas but you're wrong about Larry's.
