The Pub

Discussions about restaurants, cafes, coffee shops or bars in Cambodia. Feel free to write any reviews you have, whether its the best burger you've had in Phnom Penh or the worse pizza in Kampot, we want to read it! Discussions about Khmer dishes are also in here, or you can leave your own. If you own a restaurant, feel free to let the expat community know about it here so that we can come check it out. Found a favorite cafe or have a place we should avoid? Tell us about it. Asian recipes & questions are always welcome.

Ah OK, thanks. She does a good job. Last year it was run by an Aussie guy, who for no reason wasn't particularly friendly to me.

As for Phnom Penh bars, any recommendations for a good craft? I’m stopping by Hops among others, wondering if any new places opened.
Yes, Craft on Palace Lane.
Botanico, Embargo. Do NOT go to Prince brewing, one of the few beers I did not finish.
Damn, I love a good session Ale but this one by Prince was fucking vile. I am not sure if it was the tap too old or the beer sucked, on to a Cerevisia and much better.

I think their beer just sucks. They gave me a few cans to try and I shared them with friends; we all poured it away.

No they are all gone, and I missed them a lot, nothing last forever. For those who were here fifteen years ago, most of them are gone, night life in PP was fun and exciting now rather dull.

I went to meet a couple of couchsurfers by the riverside a few weeks ago. It was a Monday night. For fun, we strolled (limped in my case) up and down the few bar streets around 136. They said it reminded them of Pattaya. Lots of bright neon lights and literally two or three hundred women on the streets if you count from Oscar's on down to the last bar street... It was so sad to see so many poor women alone and no clients in sight anywhere. I glimpsed one or two young Western men walking along, and one or two older white guys sitting at cafes on the main corner, but that was all. But with so few men around there, I don't see how the area can sustain itself.

There are other clubs across the city like discos, way out of the bar street area, but again, most are frequented by Chinese and local men and women.

Nagaworld is always pretty busy.

Well, if one leaves the rose tinted spectacles at home and take a wander into some places you haven't been before around TTP/BKK etc you can still find watering holes to sit drink and swap lies with strangers late into the morning. . .

Not that kind of bars more like Rina Bar, Sophie's Club or Mikado Bar, all located in the city center.

So by non-hostess bars you mean brothels? I don't think that was what BaltimoreJack was looking for.

I agreed with you at least for two of these bars, Mikado and Sophie, they were salacious and not for the faint-hearted but iI was also possible to drink and talk quietly with someone without disturbance from the staff, the music was always in low volume no earsplitting jungle music like the bars near the river ( St. 130,136,110, 104)
Chez Rina was a more fashionable venue well located near the river and St,98 away from the usual hustle & bustle. A genuine upscale speakeasy lounge, the staff were hospitable, polite and nicely dressed. The bartending was truly professional and creative. Saddly Chez Rina close down for good in the summer of 2018, a great lost for Phnom Penh nightlife.
