I agree. It's a shame the NZ bakery in SR closed down the owner/baker was a Cambodian who learnt the art of the meat pie while living in NZ, his pies were excellent and the only pies I would recommend in Cambodia.

I always hang out for decent fish and chips and pies. Hard to find quality fish and chips here. The pastry is usually wrong on the pies and the filling boring. If I had the time, I'd make my own Bongs own brand special pies. Cambodians flocking to NZ to start up bakeries and Kiwis flocking to Cambodia to start up bakeries. It's a funny world.

Sihanoukville fish and chips used to be great all the time, because even if the chips were lousy, the fish was ALWAYS fresh and delicious. I'm not sure if more restaurants are buying frozen fish now, or if they buy it and freeze it themselves, but too often it is just blah. The same goes for the shrimps and squid. (Frozen.)
I hate to be putting the blame on the Chinese yet again, but it would not be surprising if the sudden population growth has had an effect on supply and demand of fresh fish and seafood in Sihanoukville, which used to be available everywhere, even in the cheapest shacks.

Chinese don't eat pies (yet), but this could be a great marketing opportunity for someone. ;-)

Wrong, well depends on the definition of pie I suppose. :D

Chinese Meat Pie (Xian Bing) https://www.chinasichuanfood.com/chinese-meat-pie/

Kiwi pies and beers becoming popular in China

Down a bustling side street in Jingan, Shanghai, former Christchurch brewer Fraser Kennedy is concocting craft beer recipes for the newly opened Goose Island Brew Pub, where he works as chief brewer.

Meanwhile, Ryan McLeod and Olivia Fowler, originally from Wellington, make their Tuck Shop pies out of a commercial kitchen in Pudong, Shanghai, and distribute them to about 250 supermarkets around China, along with a number of hotels.

Westerners love food that can be eaten on the move without utensils such as burgers, pies, pizza, fish and chips, sandwiches, and hotdogs. Y'know, all the good stuff.

I eat quite a few of them too. My daughter is big on Outback pies. One of the few foods that she will eat all of it. I like the curry pies; she likes the classic beef.

:thumb: That's about what I had in mind. Now who will be the first Kiwis to make a killing selling their pies to the Chinese in Sihanoukville ? (Plus a few western expats of course. :D )
