Re: Pies
Good shout, fish n chips is a must. The cheapest Cantonese owned place near me is the best, the fancy ones just miss the point.Doc67 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 1:26 pmand proper vintage cheddar.
Fish and Chips (in the shop, not ruined by wrapping in paper and a plastic bag);
Back bacon, sausages and black pudding;
Draught Guinness (extra cold)
Sausage rolls and Cornish pasties from Greggs.
I am going to the UK in June so I have been giving this subject some serious thought.

The best chips are always from Chinese food places because they use good quality oil and change it regularly.Apparition wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 6:01 pmGood shout, fish n chips is a must. I found Liverpool had many, if not all it's fish and chip shop's are Cantonese take-aways.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
Re: Pies
No, only flour contains gluten but apparently gluten free flour isn't great for making the puff pastry.

Re: Pies
Even ordinary puff pastry is very difficult to work with here unless you have a chilled room. Pies with shortcrust pastry can be okay too.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: Pies
Very difficult indeed, butter gets way too soft, I used to just make a rough puff due to that fact, but now I cheat and just buy the frozen puff pastry sheets.John Bingham wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 8:10 pm Even ordinary puff pastry is very difficult to work with here unless you have a chilled room.
