Re: la patate
Used to eat there a lot! When he first opened, he offered free tuk tuk rides to his place. I could be drunk, lazy, and hungry anywhere in the city, and get a free ride to my next meal (which isn't too far from my flat). After a few years the tuk tuk disappeared so I went less and less often. The portions started to shrink, and the quality started to drop. He (sorry I forgot the BIG guy's name) seemed to be spending more time and effort on the restaurant(s) across the street. Then he went back to Europe for health reasons (at least that's what I heard) and the food went to shit! Last time I ate there was with Larry right before his bar was open. Awful! Haven't been back since.
Hopefully things are back to the way they were in the beginning. If others post positive experiences, maybe I'll give it a try again.

Re: la patate
Oh, and one of the few places in Phnom Penh that had Chimay, my favorite "beer" (it's sacrilegious to put Anchor, ABC, Black Panther, Foster's, etc. in the same category! )
Re: la patate
Is the owner of La Patate the rather large gentleman with the moustache who dresses in red overalls/dungarees with bright hawaiian shirts? Always seemed like a happy chappy.
There is/was a Belgian guy working there, who is apparently a bit of a scammer according to the Cambodia scammers FB page, may have something to do with the drop in their standards??

Re: la patate
I'm pretty sure Super Mario is Belgian. He's still around, I'm not crazy about the place but my son likes the steaks and fries.PSD-Kiwi wrote:Is the owner of La Patate the rather large gentleman with the moustache who dresses in red overalls/dungarees with bright hawaiian shirts?
