Open Wine

Discussions about restaurants, cafes, coffee shops or bars in Cambodia. Feel free to write any reviews you have, whether its the best burger you've had in Phnom Penh or the worse pizza in Kampot, we want to read it! Discussions about Khmer dishes are also in here, or you can leave your own. If you own a restaurant, feel free to let the expat community know about it here so that we can come check it out. Found a favorite cafe or have a place we should avoid? Tell us about it. Asian recipes & questions are always welcome.

Open Wine

Has Open Wine closed for refurbishment or for good? The website says the former but someone told me it is closed permanently.

Anyone know for sure?

I went past yesterday, closed, empty and a For Rent sign out front.

Pity, a great set lunch for $15.

They're asking for someone to sign a 10 year lease: first five years at $10,000/month, next five at $15,000/month.

wont open anywhere soon (as a restaurant) at this rental rates I guess. No wonder the former restaurant has moved..not economically viable @15$ (now 14) per fixed meal. Need to charge 10times that per customer to be successful in such circumstances.
work is for people who cant find truffles

It sounds like another example of a landlord refusing to accept the reality of the current economic situation and that these once healthy business' are now running at losses and the rent is killing them. Instead of sharing some of the pain temporarily many (so I am told) seem hell bent on not giving an inch and bleeding the tenants dry. I like the idea that an owner walked away and set up somewhere else while they still had the capital to do it.

The old building is on a nice big plot so probably ear marked for more apartments.

The house and land has been sold to a new owner. Open Wine was already planning to not renew their lease as they focus on keeping their menu affordable.

Brussels has a smaller menu, lower operational costs, but same gastronomic standards so hopefully Philippe will be able to offer great value for money for years to come.

If you enjoyed Open Wine, it’s time to support Brussels in this soft opening phase.

Disclaimer: I’m working at Khéma La Poste, no strings attached with Brussels and/or Philippe.

Nicolas, why did they change their name? Restaurants do move occasionally and keep their reputation and brand. So why drop the Open Wine brand?
