Nyam nyam. It's tarantula season in Cambodia.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Tarantula season has started in Cambodia which means a local delicacy is back on the menu – tarantulas.

Cambodia's rainy season starts in June, which brings with it an increase in tarantulas, which are hunted and then sold to be cooked and eaten. The spiders are found in the countryside and up to 140 can be captured per day by hunters.

The Spiders are prepared with sugar and salt then cooked in hot oil, producing crunchy, salty snacks.

They are popular with locals who prefer them to crickets and silkworms - which are other insects commonly sold in the street markets.

Vendors sell up to 100 tarantulas a day, proving them to be quite popular.

Stick with pussy Jamie. Real men eat things that squirm, not crawl.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

I remember reading that most of them are farmed these days.

Tried it a couple of times, not my favorite snack. Probably less dangerous than eating out some rancid bar girl pussy though....

I've seen them at the market... haven't tried one yet but think maybe they're better freshly fried than when they've been sitting for a while and cold?

I'm disappointed. I thought they were all natural and organic.
Spoiler:
The tarantulas of course :plus1:
I've eaten some legs, but I'm working my way up to the body which is a bit more of a challenge.

The tastes in the west differ. But the insects in the east provide nutrition values.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
