I don't care if Mark makes steaks out of the Emperors butt, as long as he keeps his signature giant steak on the menu.

After reading all the hype on here I finally got to sample the MM Rib Eye Steak at the weekend.
Yes as described it was big, I asked for medium/rare and it was close enough without the need to complain and agree that at $12.50 was good value for money, I ended up taking half of it home for cold cuts the next day. I think the owner has hit onto a very good thing and good luck to him, but for the guys on here who say it is the best steak you have ever had, I feel sorry for you if that is true.
It seems so many people these days are confusing quantity over quality, you have only to watch the History Channels latest offering showing the American dream, going to various cities in the USA to showcase the eating habits of the locals. The one thing constant is that Bigger is always better with whichever food is being presented. To watch these obese people gorging at the Vegas eat all you want buffet, or the 1lb of Salami in a Standard sandwich who honestly needs that. Answer if it is cheap it must be good.
Is it any wonder that the obese youngsters in the USA are storing up a whole load of health issues in their later life when they see it is the norm to eat, eat, eat. Perhaps if someone explained to them that what they describe as a healthy appetite is in fact gluttony there may be some progress.
If you want to try another venue for a steak then Hemmingways Victory Hill have never disappointed, no it is not the best steak I have ever had, and no it is not as big as MM but the meat quality the setting and cost all add up to a pleasant dining experience.

Let's be fair about this, living in Sihanoukville pretty much rules people out as great connisseurs of food. Michelin don't give out stars in that neighbourhood, they hand out tyres full of burning fuel...

With the singular exception of delusional Americans, nobody considers American steaks to be the best on earth either. That's a toss up between Japanese Kobe beef and possibly Scottish Aberdeen Angus. (I am neither Japanese nor Scottish though if I had to become one or the other - I'd choose suicide). Aussie and Japanese Wagyu would also get a look in before American beef.

As for portion sizes - I agree. I'm a fat bastard but I often can't finish a meal in a restaurant any more - portions are way out of control. The best restaurants leave you feeling full at the last bite of the final course, not going home with a doggy bag.

LMFAO, what a joke mate! You are going to whinge about a well cooked (your admission) imported Tbone or Sirloin steak, in Cambodia, that cost you $12.50? It was to fukn BIG is your complaint? You compare it to Hemmingways? I'm not putting their steak down, but its not even in the same league. The only one that is in any way comparable is Enzo's and that is a bloody good steak, but a little smaller and a little more expensive. I couldn't be fukd going back through the entire thread, but I'm pretty sure nobody said it was the best steak they ever had, just the best in Cambodia for the price. And what point are you trying to make about young, obese yanks? I'm not young, obese ( about 65kg wringing wet) or a yank and I wouldn't eat macshit if you paid me to.
Hmmm... why do I get the feeling that this may be a "review" from a disgruntled competitor?

My soon to be in law (khmer from long beach) whom I invited to eat the gargantuesque MM steak, told me that the one he had in a SR steak house might have been slightly better (I must say that the steak was less tender than usual that night) but serving was less than half the weight and the cost was 30$.

@ TheGrinch:
Let me assure you that myself and at least a handful of SHV alike resident friends of mine, most probably have eaten in many more Michelin starred restaurant than you ever have in your wildest dreams...

It seems you have difficulty understanding what was written Hotdigr, perhaps late night postings after a heavy night are not the best time for you.

In YOUR opinion which as a Chef, Top Barista, sometime Best Cocktail maker in town sometime Barman and sometime Ice Cream Parlour owner. (Your comments on various posts over the years) I did not complain it was too big, and congratulated the owner on hitting a niche and wished him good luck, finally yes one poster did comment that it was the best steak he had eaten (not just in Cambodia).
My comment was that nowadays too many people equate huge portion size and cheap pricing with good quality. If you class my comments as a whinge then you are “whinging” that ”Enzo’s is a little bit smaller and a little more expensive” so on that basis you prefer MM because it is bigger and cheaper I think you now understand my point.

I find it amusing that anyone eating out in Sihanoukville would class ANY food here expensive but I guess that all depends on if you are scratching around trying to make a buck to survive or have sufficient funds to have what in the western world would be a normal standard of living.

For your info I am not a competitor in any way, just enjoying my retirement, and surely just because someone has a different opinion than you does that make them wrong and you right.

Keep fantasizing old boy. Whatever it takes to make you feel better about living in Cambodia's toilet.

No Michelin stars but a restaurant inside the World's Top 500 (Cuisine Wat Damnak). Which is an infinite number more than SHV can muster. We have some excellent steaks here and plenty of places to choose to consume them in.

Anyone living in Snookyville not knowing anything about food? Let me see, I live in Snooky and for over 19 years was in the food service industry running kitchens and have an educational background in the culinary arts. I've fed people all the way from Bob Dylan and The Band to Richard Nixon's cabinet/advisors. (This includes a number of connected "Wise Guys" if you know the term.)

America beef not top quality? I have yet to have a steak dollar for dollar that comes anywhere near a good grain/corn fed American steak. Sure you can get beef that's on a par ounce for ounce with gold, but for bang for the buck its American grain/corn fed beef. I have yet to have a steak from OZ or New Zealand that comes anywhere near a USDA prime steak. Most of the beef I've tried from OZ and New Zealand I would grade at best Choice and at worst Standard. The beef grown in Cambo I'd grade at Utility all the way down to Canner grade.

MM steaks my not be the best I have ever had, but for the price are damn good. The best I've every had? I'd say the Metropolitan Grill, Seattle, Washington State or F.X McRorys just down the street. When in season, the Olympic oysters (Ostrea Lurida) at McRory's are heaven. (they only grow in one place on earth, Puget Sound Washington State to Southern Alaska)

BTW/ In the 1870s my great, grandfather drove a herd of Black Angus cattle from St. Louis Missouri, to Idaho. One tough SOB!
