I went in there, Mark was shirtless and perspiring heavily.

He asked me what i wanted, I replied that I had come to eat.

No deal, his wife was away in Vietnam, I guess she is the cook.
was similar to fawlty towers though much grubbier.

there was a monkey there.

Yeah Mark takes the opportunity to rip it up when his wife Kanary is out of town. He used to do the steaks until recently and she cooked everything else. He even had a Japanese guy in the kitchen for awhile. I've had bad luck with all 3.

Beef is always problematical in SEA unless you're willing to throw big cake at it like at NY Steakhouse. At MM you get like a 700g Prime NZ Rib Eye for $13 fucking dollars ! The burger is as big as my head and it's $6.50. I'm not going to forsake them over temperature. 3 of us ate $23 Rib Eyes at Armand's last week and they were tough, maybe 1/2" thick, and tasted like they were baked not broiled. One guy got the filet and it had tendons in it that he couldn't cut. I always thought that place was pretty good. They must be buying a lower grade now.

Actually when you said you had been 20+ times and they hadn't got your steak right I thought you were having a joke. I think if I went to an establishment and they fucked up once I would not go again. Personally I think no matter how good the meat is if they fuck up the cooking then its waste of money. If they cant get the steak right how did they go with the sauce and vegetables?

Australian striploin at LSH is or was about $15 a kilo, and selected US ribeye about $20 or so, I would rather buy from the butcher and cook it myself at least you know its dead right. I think TBH 700g would be enough for the wife and myself for two meals. We do a pepper steak, using Australian strip and cream for the sauce for two, including a decent bottle of Bordeaux for under $20.

Between steaks and burgers I'd say 20X is about right and I've yet to have one cooked MR. They've done my friends' & my gf's properly a couple X though. I've had no such luck. I'll eat R & M and not send it back, but usually it's blue in the center then re-overcooked. Back in the States I never went out for steaks. I can burn a cow as well as any restaurant. There's no place to buy decent beef down here and I had just given up on it until MMs. Duck breasts had to suffice. At MM's this is Prime beef we're talking about, not Select. 3% is Prime, 54% is Choice, & Select is the lowest grade sold in stores. I've got the routine down now. After I send it back, in a couple mins I go into the kitchen and prevent overcooking. BTW, I've heard great things about the steak at this place, but have yet to have one: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R ... vince.html

We've just started buying beef and lamb from LSH - avoid the SA minced beef at all costs, it has huge amounts of solid gristle in it, but the SA silverside (cut of meat, not brined) at $10kg is great. Is the Oz striploin worth the dollar?
