2 kg at $ 23 ??? That's not cheese.....not possible. On the other hand they can copy cheese really well in the meantime. Structure, texture, coloring, taste (everything artificial of course) is copied perfectly, still....it's not the real thing.....it's like you would drink 2 liters of oil.

What "sigh" ? 2 liters of oil are not good for a guy suffering from diabetes.

You're probably correct, but I could easily get a good aged cheddar in the States for $7-$8/kg without buying bulk. Wouldn't a below average Oz product be equally or more inexpensive ?

You're seriously suggesting that American cheeses are better than Australian cheeses? Wow...

No I'm not. I phrased it wrong. I don't know squat about your cheese. I like your wine, beer, and beef though. I've eaten a ton more NZ than Oz. I'm saying that one should be able to get a half decent, not great cheese from Oz for way less than than $11.50/kg, ship it here, and make a good profit. It was said that cheese @ $23/2 kilos had to be fraudulent shit.

That's cheap, very cheap. In Europe top-noch cheeses will cost you Euro 4 - 5 per a 100 grams !!! But as I have said, this is for top quality. An average cheese would cost you between Euro 2 and 3 for a 100 grams.
A real Emmental cheese from Emmental ripened 36 month in caves will go for Euro 4.80/100grams in deli shops.

I barely ever buy cheese so I'm far from being any sort of expert on it. However Cambodia Superstore on 1986 sells Irish cheddar and I'm pretty sure most of the cheeses you buy here are from Australia, New Zealand and France and aren't some sort of fake stuff.
We buy 2kg Bega brand blocks of chedar from Australia at $23 for cooking/sandwiches. Seems to be the same as the product sold in Oz for twice that much.
Sounds about right i think i pay around $16 a kilo for English cheddar. Thai Huat have a good selection of cheese, I have been shopping there since 1998 and I get French Brie and Camembert from there.

I wouldnt be surprised if some of the crappy cheese I get down here in SV is 'cheese like product'. I always buy wine and cheese in PP. The limited selections of both are awful down here.
