Les Oliviers closed

We went looking for a place where we always eat when in Phnom Penh, Les Oliviers on St 51 across from the forever diminishing bar mall. Couldn’t find it. I sent a message to Les O’s Facebook page. Got a quick message back that he closed it. Too bad.

That's a shame. Only been a few times, but the food was always excellent. I think the location hurt them a bit. It was great for people watching, but GSM can be a bit of an eyesore if you know what I mean. Potential clients would probably rather go to Gaston, Bouchon, La Provence, La Ferme de Bassac etc. Tons of options around in more pleasant locations for what their target clientele might have been.

Was there another French bistro at that location before? There was a tiny shophouse in that location that had a French restaurant maybe ten years ago. I remember going in with a group of about ten (most had been there before) and they had to set up a bunch of extra tables outside on Pasteur. Golden Sorya Mall was in its early stages then. The food there was very reasonably priced and incredibly tasty. What stood out is that you had to go through the tiny front room of the place and through the kitchen to get to the bathrooms. The kitchen was wild. The owner was this ex-legionnaire who looked like Popeye and he was busting his ass in this insanely small and hot space cooking up all this great food.

Google "on the corner" or "le resto du coin" its at 191 Sisowath Quay, Phnom Penh 12000, Cambodia. French vietnamese. Excellent french style cuisine. Not michelin star rating but very good. Does creme caramel which is pretty unique in PP!

Yep, you mean bistro de Paris with Richard the cook/manager, he was a character.

Les oliviers has been closed for at least 6 months, replaced by the Turkish guy who had a small booth across the street between Martini pizza and homefood. Very average food there now and overpriced, the french places were way better.

I agree with pccz about resto du coin on sisowath. Best kept secret in pp. Excellent food at low prices. Try the tournedos with green pepper, it's a steal.

Indeed it is a great place - try the beef cheeks bourginon

I miss the demise of Lyon d'Or as well

Oliviers was excellent - we used to get a group together and pre-order the confit duck maryland which was awesome. Ever changing menu and specials made it a treat regardless of the location

FYI

L'Entrecote street 51 Golden Sorya mall PP

run by a guy who had a restaurant in Kampot who ages his own steaks and they are excellent and reasonable price wise. Also specials like roast lamb, creamy haricot beans and balsamic green beans or merguez and couscous.

worth a try
