Khmer & non-Khmer Foods

Discussions about restaurants, cafes, coffee shops or bars in Cambodia. Feel free to write any reviews you have, whether its the best burger you've had in Phnom Penh or the worse pizza in Kampot, we want to read it! Discussions about Khmer dishes are also in here, or you can leave your own. If you own a restaurant, feel free to let the expat community know about it here so that we can come check it out. Found a favorite cafe or have a place we should avoid? Tell us about it. Asian recipes & questions are always welcome.

Sauce is way too sweet, no hint of herbs like basil, thyme, oregano...anything, and the pasta is typically flavourless and sticky, sometimes very squishy. Last plate of spaghetti I tried here had a bunch of sliced carrots on top, not sure what that was about.

Growing up one of my friends was 1st generation American (from Italy), so his mum always made sure Italian food was done the Italian way. I've never been to Italy, but the way she cooked seemed to emphasize more tomato, herbs plus cheese (real cheese, not the powdered shit), and olive oil on the pasta to give everything a real fresh natural taste. She almost never seemed to use sugar or salt if I recall and I suspect adding gobs of sugar and tomato paste in the sauce would have been a bit of a no no.

So that's what I'm used to in terms of Italian food, no idea if it's authentic, but it's way too dissimilar from the stuff here for me to enjoy the Cambodian version as Italian food.

Btw, I've only tried Khmer versions of spaghetti from maybe 4 different places, I've not been to any upscale Italian places to eat out.
Have you never ate Japanese spaghetti? Same thing with the carrots, usually mushrooms and onions and use very little sauce(which i like.)

I had the same in a friend, 1st gen Italian, Thanksgiving at his house was pasta, pasta and more pasta. Some good stuff I've never seen since.

I'm not that big of a fan of Italian food, and really picky on tomato sauces so I usually avoid.

AE86 wrote:^^Question, when you say she hates spaghetti, what kind of spaghetti? Because I haven't found a plate of spaghetti in Cambodia that I liked, but if I cook my own spaghetti my family and I enjoy it.

Same goes for a lot of foreign food here actually. I like hamburgers, but I hate Lucky burger, Burger King, etc.
This was spaghetti cooked at home, she hates it. Denies it's the same as noodles.

Possibly is different, if the pasta is cooked with durum wheat flour and the noodles are made with rice flour.

Do you reach ketosis? I made it for one week.Clarity of mind & energy level through the roof but was running Tren & Test alongside. The bulk add & strength gains were amazing.
One week later the energy crash came. Managed to keep 25% of gains post cycle.

yeah pretty much, my boy fat percentage was on average around 10%, now im like 35% but ill get that down to about 20% once i start hitting the gym again
i did do weights for a while in 2010, only ever taken whey protein though, im not much of a "gains" kinda guy, i bulk up enough quite naturally, i guess having a physically demanding job helps a bit
