Jeez god forbid a man try to make a profit at his business. Rents are high, imported goods are high, beer and people like the OP are cheap.

10 years ago I owned a restaurant in Ponsonby, Auckland. My rent was $1000 a week.
Don't know about PP (or tents) but I know that rents for good locations in Temple Town are more than that.
There's a 15x30 cafe near BTK plaza that's $5,500 a month. To buy the building outright is $1.1 million.

I think it's not a good mindset.

Let's say the menus and prices here in PP are similar to your own country. Doesn't it mean that the price is cheap already ? Considering all the ingredients are from your country ..
Currently you are on another country and they are selling your food with the same price as in your country. I think it's really cheap while most people will raise the price than the market price in their own country.

Overall I think this case not consider ripped off instead just a business :beer3:

You also have to take quality into account. Sure, a good burger here is around $10. Not too shabby. I would've paid half that price for the same quality burger back home. $10 back home gets me some finger licking good burger. Not here.

Same thing with Pizzas. BK pizza is decent. I don't mind forking out $20 for a decent pizza here. I would've never paid that price for the same quality back home. I would've just ordered some Papa John's or something.

I don't find barang food that expensive in PP. Go to any decent restaurant in a European capital, you won't get away for less than 25/35 euros. In PP you can get a good barang meal for 12 to 15$, that's less than half the price compared to Europe. Try an average restaurant in Paris and you'll find the French restaurants in PP really cheap (and good)!

On a side note how come OP doesn't have so much ire for say Cambodian run restaurants which use local ingredients for local food yet charge a lot more than the market stall like Malis for example? Whos staff probably only get the usual server staff rates... Just another angry dumb ass white warrior if you ask me.

Alcohol is unbelievably cheap here. Stop eating, just drink beer.

I also wonder why the price is comparable to western restaurants and drink's cost more also, that's why I stick to crappy Cambodian food , don't lose any weight though must be the cheap beer I have with it
Then again I wouldn't go to Italy to eat hamburger either.

Oh you were most certainly being ripped off, paying $1000 a week for something you already "owned!"
You misunderstood. I owned the business not the building. Very few restaurant owners also own the real estate, anywhere in the world.
