Eating ? and breathing ?
For the last hour I watched the traffic flow along riverside Sisowath Quay, one of the most popular spots for tourist to sit back , eat and have a drink. So what's it like eating your food with the dust, while breathing in the carbon monoxide gases that are spewed out from the many trucks that stop / start in the traffic along the way. I didn't count the number of large 5 to 7 ton trucks, let alone the other cars, tuk-tuks and motorbikes that would be adding a unwanted flavour to the food on the strip, yet just a stones throw away, places like '' Larry's '' and other restaurants up the side streets not a single truck passes by.
Good health and enjoy your meal.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: Eating ? and breathing ?
The riverside is the most overrated destination in Cambodia. The one in Kampong Cham is actually impressive because you can see across the whole river to actual countryside, whereas the PP riverside is a view across a polluted tributary to an overdeveloped peninsula. Not to mention the traffic, noise, street hawkers, officious police and cramped and poorly maintained footpaths on the street side.
If they'd had a single brain-cell among them, officials would have realized that the road cutting the river off from the buildings should have been removed and the whole area developed. Now you've just got a dark, uninviting pavement desert for hobos and street kids to sleep on.
Of course, boats could never be this close in PP, but the idea of a foreshore that's used for more than dancing grandmas and kids playing that stupid kicking game could earn them a lot more tourist money.

Rather than completely cutting it off, do as Soi Bangla in Patong, Patpong in Bangkok, main street in Luang Prabang and Riverside in Vientiane do ( to name but a few i am familiar with)
open till 5 pm for deliveries and such, than close 5-mindnight for walking and street stalls,
would do wonders for the city
PS; back before boats did pull right up and passengers could board for sunset, night tours on the Tonle Sap

^^ You still can do sunset boat trips. But you have to go up past the Tonle Sap restaurant to board/unboard the boats.

yes, but it is a thriving hub of change. NGO's here are tireless in their efforts to improve the situation of Khmers.
it is the dirty exploitive white males who come here on holiday from Australia who mostly ruin things.

their words are even more shocking than their appearance,
